BCS Bowl Predictions: Picking the Entire BCS Bowl Field

Danny FlynnNov 29, 2011

The potential BCS national championship pairing of No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama has already stirred up plenty of debate around the sports world, and if the Tigers and the Tide do officially get picked by the BCS gods to settle things down in New Orleans, then you're going to hear a lot more disagreements throughout the next month and change.

The focus of the college football world will be squarely on the LSU-Alabama title game, but that doesn't mean that the other four BCS bowl games won't be worth tuning in for.

There are certainly a few intriguing possible matchups and potential pairings.

Things can change depending on how everything plays out in the final weekend, but here's a look at how I would currently project the five BCS bowl games.

BCS National Championship: LSU vs. Alabama

1 of 6

If we see another 9-6 game, you're probably going to hear a lot of grumbling, but I wouldn't expect that kind of low-scoring defensive battle again.

Jordan Jefferson and A.J. McCarron are both playing good ball right now, and the offenses should fare better in the second meeting.

This could be a classic game, but the problem is, if Alabama wins, what does it prove?

Then it's 1-1.

If Alabama and LSU both finish with one loss, and each of them has a win over the other, how can you declare Alabama a truly definitive national champion?

It just doesn't make much sense.

Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma State vs. Stanford

2 of 6

Stanford's Andrew Luck and Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden have been two of the top passers in college football this season, and both have spent time as Heisman favorites this year, even though Weeden only had that title for a few days.

Stanford and Oklahoma State have two of the most productive offenses in the country, and this is the type of matchup that could really light up a scoreboard.

It would definitely be interesting to see Luck have to try to out-duel Weeden in the desert, and it would certainly help us figure out if the star signal-caller is actually worthy of his tremendous hype.

Rose Bowl: Oregon vs. Wisconsin

3 of 6

Russell Wilson and Montee Ball vs. LaMichael James and Darron Thomas?

Are you ready for that tag-team bout?

If Wisconsin and Oregon can win their respective conference championship games this weekend, the two teams will meet up out in Pasadena for the Rose Bowl.

These teams may each have two losses, but they also have two of the most powerful offensive attacks in the country.

The Badgers and the Ducks have two of the most dangerous backfields in college football and it would be a lot of fun to see these two teams try to outrun each other.

Sugar Bowl: Houston vs. Michigan

4 of 6

Houston has been flying up the rankings throughout the season, and now it looks like the No. 6 Cougars are bound for a BCS bowl if they can beat Southern Miss in the Conference-USA championship game.

QB Case Keenum has entered the Heisman conversation after pulling the trigger for a Houston offense that currently ranks first in the country in both scoring and total offense, averaging 52 points and 613 yards per game.

Watching Keenum and Michigan QB Denard Robinson go at it would make for an exciting offensive battle down in New Orleans.

Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech vs. West Virginia

5 of 6

As a West Virginia alum, I would love to see a matchup of the old regional and conference rivalry between Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

The two teams haven't met since 2005 after Virginia Tech left for the ACC.

This potential matchup would feature two of the most promising underclassmen quarterbacks in college football in Virginia Tech's Logan Thomas and West Virginia's Geno Smith.

These are also two teams that have enough returning talent to be in the Top-10 mix next season, so it would be interesting to get a preview of what we should expect in 2012.
