Bowl Projections: Sugar Bowl Will Be Biggest Disaster of All BCS Games
Do you want to see a game where both teams used to have the same disgraced head coach?
With the way things are looking right now, No.16 Michigan would be playing No. 23 West Virginia in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 3 in New Orleans.
Both schools have terrible things to say about Rich Rodriguez, but that’s about it in a game that should be played well before the New Year.
Michigan has the 85th-ranked passing game because Denard Robinson makes Tim Tebow look like the greatest pocket passer of all time. The Wolverines have beaten a grand total of one ranked team (No. 16 Nebraska) at the time of when they played and sport an extremely ugly loss to Iowa earlier this month.
And they would likely be the favorites over a Mountaineer team that looked like it would be struggling for bowl eligibility a few weeks ago. The Mountaineers sport the 101st (116.9 yards per game) rushing offense and a defense that is wildly inconsistent.
I understand that somebody has to play in this game from the Big East—and WVU is certainly better than Cincinnati and Louisville—but it’s incredibly ridiculous.
These two teams should not be in any sort of BCS discussion, let alone have a realistic shot of actually playing in the game. Teams like No. 10 Oklahoma, No. 11 Kansas State and No. 12 South Carolina are all much more talented, but are screwed because of being in a tougher conference. That's not right.
More than anything else, let’s take the common sense approach. Should the 23rd-best team face the 16th-best team in one of the top-five games of the season?
It makes no sense whatsoever and the Sugar Bowl will be the 2012 example of why the current system stinks and changes have to be made.
