Bowl Predictions 2012: Alabama vs. LSU Rematch Will Turn off Viewers

The LSU Tigers are more than likely going to face the Alabama Crimson Tide in a rematch of their regular season game, this time with the national championship on the line.

The worst part about this replay, and I’m not even going to get into who is the true No. one or two or three or ten or seventy-eight in the nation, is that the first meeting between these two schools was one of the most utterly unwatchable and boring games I have seen played.

It was also the most hyped game of the season and it will only be surpassed by the buzz surrounding the national championship game.

I don’t care that the schools are playing again, sure maybe Alabama is really the second best team in the nation, I just hate the fact that it’s going to be so utterly unwatchable.

The first game featured some of the worst offense I have ever seen. The teams combined to convert less than half of their third downs, totaled less than 600 yards, rush for less than 3.5 yards per attempt and failed to score a single touchdown.

The game was decided 9-6 in favor of LSU in overtime because Drew Alleman was able to convert all three of his field goal chances while Cade Foster and Jeremy Shelley went 2-6 for the Crimson Tide.

It was brutal to watch and it just proves that the defenses in the SEC completely outclass their offensive capability right now.

What is exciting about this matchup? I don’t find anything great about watching two defenses stop two dive plays in a row and then break up a terrible pass and then fair catch a punt.

Sure, LSU and Alabama may deserve to play for the national championship, but viewers aren’t going to be excited and probably won’t turn out in droves to watch it like in seasons past.
