BCS Rankings 2011: Georgia Bulldogs and Other Teams Screwed by Computers
The BCS system continues to irritate college football fans and teams, ranking some schools much lower than they ought to be.
While many call for a playoff, teams are forced to deal with what the BCS hands them. It's no big deal for some teams, but others are given the shaft by the computers and can only hope some luck falls their way.
With that said, here are three teams screwed by the BCS in Week 14.
No. 14 Georgia
The Bulldogs crushed one of their most hated rivals, who happened to be ranked at No. 23, and somehow they dropped a spot. This makes absolutely no sense at all, and fans and players have every right to be outraged.
Georgia has done an excellent job since starting 0-2, and it much better than a number of teams listed ahead of them. Don't take just my word for it, as David Ching of ESPN tweeted last night his thoughts on the matter.
With one game remaining, the Bulldogs have a chance to reach the Top 10 if they can pull the upset over the No. 1 LSU Tigers in the SEC Championship game. Georgia can stick it to the computers with a win over LSU, but that, of course, will not be easy at all.
Still, though, the Bulldogs let down by the computers this week. Expect them to use it as motivation this Saturday.
No. 9 Oregon
The Ducks jumped up one spot after thrashing their arch rival, the Oregon State Beavers. They're a definite Top 10 and are content with where they're ranked for now, but it should be higher.
Oregon is a much better team than five of the teams ahead of them, but since they recently lost they have to suffer. The computers forgot about the Ducks this week, but once they win the Pac-12 title game this weekend, they should get some more respect, even if they are only beating UCLA.
The Ducks belong much closer to the top five, but the BCS system proves it's messed up by ranking Oregon at No. 9.
Florida State
The Seminoles aren't ranked in the BCS right now, and that is a problem. At 8-4, Florida State deserves a spot in the Top 25 over a few teams that somehow snuck in.
Missouri is at No. 25 with a 7-5 record, and somehow Texas moved up after losing a game. That is completely ridiculous and further proof the BCS needs to cease operation. Neither one of those teams should be ranked above Florida State.
Give credit to the Seminoles for climbing out of an early season hole and rebounding to finish the season strong. They need to be ranked over some of these other subpar teams that have been given too much love by the computers.
