BCS Bowl Projections 2012: 4 Teams We Know Will Disappoint in the BCS Bowls
It's about that time that we begin to look forward to the college football bowl season. With conference championships under way, we are only a week away from the bowl matchups being announced.
The BCS bowls are the best, as they normally feature some of the top teams in the country, and the majority of the games are fantastic. But every once in a while, you get these teams where their record says they're a great team, but they aren't as good as advertised.
Nothing worse than an overrated team ruining a good bowl game.
Here are a few teams that will disappoint if they reach a BCS bowl.
Any Big East Team
1 of 4Pick any team from the Big East conference and they will disappoint, as they will end up playing the winner from the Virginia Tech-Clemson game. The automatic bid should be removed from the Big East until they get their conference back on its feet.
As of right now, Louisville is leading that conference of all teams.
West Virginia would be the best team to go to the Orange Bowl, but even they have their struggles, as they lost to Syracuse and Louisville. None of the teams in the Big East can compete with the big boys of the ACC, and the bowl game will instantly become the least attractive BCS game.
Houston Cougars
2 of 4I enjoy seeing small programs like Houston come up and get some love after having a successful season, but let's be serious for a minute: The Cougars are not the No. 6 team in the country, and they aren't as good as their undefeated record shows.
They play in the C-USA, a conference that plays little to no defense and has very few respectable teams. I like Case Keenum and enjoy seeing an offense that is capable of putting up 50 points a game, but that won't happen against a team from a major BCS conference.
Houston will likely play a BCS at-large bid in the Sugar Bowl, and I don't see that matchup going over very well. I continue to have flashbacks of the 2007 Sugar Bowl.
UCLA Bruins
3 of 4Could you imagine UCLA in a BCS bowl? The Rose Bowl is having nightmares about the possibilities right now.
A 6-6 UCLA team playing in the Pac-12 Championship is a joke, and it's only happening because USC is banned from participating. I know the chances of the Bruins beating Oregon is very slim, but we've all seen stranger things happen.
I don't think this team could disappoint in a BCS bowl, because we wouldn't have high expectations for them to begin with. They struggle on both sides of the ball and are far from competitive.
A matchup against the conference winner from the Big Ten would make the Rose Bowl a very disappointing game.
Oklahoma Sooners
4 of 4The Sooners haven't been the same team since Ryan Broyles and Dominique Whaley went down with season-ending injuries. The defense hasn't looked that good either, as they gave up 45 points in the loss to Baylor.
This team also struggled last week against Iowa State, as they only won the game by 20 points.
If the Sooners beat Oklahoma State this weekend, they'll likely reach the Fiesta Bowl and take on Stanford. The Cardinal are a disciplined team that plays well on both sides of the ball.
The Sooners won't fare well.
