BCS Rankings: Georgia and 3 Teams That Hold Key to BCS Hysteria
It has come down to one week. Alabama has won their final regular season game and because of divisional alignment, they do not have to play again until the national championship.
That exposes a flaw in the system. LSU sits at No. 1, yet now they have to play an extra game and possibly have their worthiness for the BCS title game questioned if they were to lose to Georgia in the SEC title game.
No matter what happens in the SEC title game, it would seem that LSU has built a strong enough resume to remain in the title game, even with a loss.
Georgia isn’t the only team who could cause a stir.
If Clemson defeats Virginia Tech, as I believe they will in the ACC title game. The Tigers would supplant Virginia Tech as the ACC representative in the Orange Bowl. But, where would that leave the Hokies?
There is some speculation that Michigan could be placed in the Sugar Bowl, as a replacement for LSU or Alabama, who would obviously play each other in the BCS title game.
This is more likely if Wisconsin knocks off Michigan State in the Big Ten title game. But if Georgia wins, they would automatically go to the Sugar Bowl to beat up on Houston.
Potentially equally chaotic would be a loss by West Virginia. That changes the Big East contribution to a BCS bowl, most likely the Orange Bowl.
This type of debate is not fun in my opinion. Sports championships should be certain and determined in a head-to-head manner.
This is just one of several college football seasons that will end with as many questions as answers.
