Urban Meyer Ohio State: Meyer Hire Will Lead to National Title Contention

Justin WeltonNov 26, 2011

Urban Meyer to Ohio State hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s inevitable. Once the university announces the hire, Ohio State will be destined for greatness once again.

Signing a coach like Meyer will lead the Buckeyes to BCS National Championship contention in the next couple of years. Once Meyer implements his style of offense, his type of players and his coaching staff, the sky is truly the limit.

Jim Tressel struggled in the big game. He was 5-4 in bowl games in his head coaching career. Meyer is 7-1 in his tenure. He’s a big-game coach.

Meyer has been one of the best coaches in college football since taking over at Florida in 2005. His offensive style destroyed the best conference in the country (SEC) for several years with Tim Tebow at the helm. Tebow and the Gators offense rushed for over 2,500 yards three times en route to two national championships.

Alex Smith was another quarterback that could run and pass the ball extraordinarily well in Meyer’s system. Smith led Utah to a BCS Bowl game in 2004.

Both of these quarterbacks were first-round picks in the NFL draft. However, they are average, at best, in the NFL. Meyer can turn any player that is below par throwing the football to stars in the college realm. He created two stars in college football, and he will be able to do it again.

Ohio State is full of rich tradition. Even if Meyer wasn’t their selection, they would still be in title contention in upcoming years because of the helmet they put on.

Compile the team and high-quality coach and Ohio State is a team that talented kids who want to get drafted in the NFL and win a championship in college would want to play for. Meyer has proven that he can take average players and make them first round draft picks.

Recruits and parents will realize this and jump all over the opportunity to play at Ohio State. Whether he continues to recruit kids from Florida or moves the pipeline up north, Meyer knows exactly the type of players he needs to win a national championship.

It won’t be more than three seasons before we start to see Meyer compete for the national title.
