Penn State vs. Wisconsin: the Top 5 Players on the Field
With Penn State being an 18-point underdog, is it safe to say that the best players on the field will be on Wisconsin’s sideline?
Even though the Badgers have lost two games this season, they still possess one of the most explosive offenses in all of college football, but is Penn State’s defense good enough to keep their offense in striking range?
That comes down to the players on the field, and there are five great playmakers in this game that will decide the result.
These are the top five players on the field.
5. Silas Redd
1 of 5Silas Redd has pretty much been Penn State’s offense all season long. Redd has rushed for over 1,000 yards this season and has seven touchdowns to show for it.
Even though Penn State’s defense is impressively dominant, Wisconsin will put points on the board. It’s up to Redd and the offense to produce some points as well.
4. Nick Toon
2 of 5Nick Toon is projected to go within the first two rounds of the NFL draft, and it’s not hard to see why.
Toon has 47 receptions this season with 746 yards, and he’s grabbed eight touchdown receptions.
He’s not only a deep threat for Russell Wilson, but he’s a physical receiver that can break tackles and make plays on his own.
3. Russell Wilson
3 of 5Russell Wilson represents that new breed of quarterbacks that can hurt defenses with both their arm and their feet.
Like Robert Griffin III and Denard Robinson, Wilson can sling it down the field and make plays with his feet.
Wilson has thrown for over 2,500 yards and has thrown 26 touchdowns with only three interceptions. That’s some impressive stats right there. Wilson’s play will be huge today going against Penn State’s always-strong defensive efforts.
Should Penn State flush Wilson out of the pocket, it could be a long day for the boys in white as they chase him all over the field.
2. Montee Ball
4 of 5The touchdown machine himself. Montee Ball has been phenomenal this year, and that’s selling him short.
Ball has rushed for over 1,400 yards this season, and he’s managed to rush the ball into the end zone 25 times. Yeah, that’s right.
What he’s done this year has been amazing, and I think he should get some Heisman looks for his contribution to this offense.
Ball is not only the best running back in this game, but he’s one of the best that college football has to offer.
1. Devon Still
5 of 5When it comes to having the best player on the football field, Penn State will have that today in Devon Still.
Still is up for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy for the best defensive lineman in football, and that’s quite an honor.
This season, Still has had 47 tackles with four sacks, with 14 of those tackles being for a loss.
Still is the best player on the field, and he’ll need to come up big when trying to stop Ball and that rushing attack of the Badgers. It’s time for Still to show why he’s so dominant in the middle.
