Arkansas vs. LSU: Tigers' Defense Will Be a Difference-Maker in the SEC Showdown

Eric BowmanNov 25, 2011

The Battle for the Golden Boot figures to be one of the best games of the season. The No. 1 LSU Tigers will host the No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks, and in the end, the Tigers' stout defense will be the reason they walk away victorious.

Since the Razorbacks continued to climb up the rankings, the anticipation for Friday's contest got bigger and bigger. A lot of people have the day off, and their eyes will be glued to CBS to watch the 2:30 p.m. kickoff.

The Razorbacks' season rests on the arm of Tyler Wilson, but it's the Tigers' defense that will prevail. Wilson may be the best quarterback LSU will have faced all season, but the Tigers won't be denied a shot at the BCS National Championship.

Taking a look at the Tigers' defensive stats, only twice this year have they allowed more than 200 passing yards. The first was the season-opener against the Oregon Ducks, and the second was against West Virginia a few weeks later.

After LSU allowed Geno Smith to torch them for 463 yards, Les Miles had his defense clamp down. They've only given up two passing touchdowns since that game against West Virginia, and only five total all season.

Currently, LSU has a five game streak of not letting any quarterback throw a touchdown pass. That should end on Friday though because Wilson and his strong receivers corps will find the end-zone.

Charles Bloom is the PR guy for the Southeastern Conference, and he tweeted just how impressive this LSU defense truly is.

They get after the ball, which is why Wilson must make smart decisions all day long. One mistake could cost him the game.

While the Tigers' defense is one of the best in the SEC, TV producer Ray Goodrich tweeted how good Arkansas' offense has been.

Wilson loves to air it out, and he'll be doing a lot of that on Friday afternoon.

These are the reasons why this game could actually be more "Game of the Century"-like than LSU vs. Alabama; a rocket-arm quarterback up against a strong playmaking defensive team.

That is a game everyone will want to see.

This is the Tigers' toughest test in quite some time, and while they may struggle in the early going, they'll make the necessary adjustments to prevent Wilson from having a monster performance.

The Tigers' exceptional defensive play will make all the difference in the world on Friday. Some are predicting they'll be so good that LSU wins in a blowout.

I don't see that happening because of Wilson's ability to make big throws, but when the game is on the line, the experienced LSU defense will come through. They've proven they can perform will in the clutch, and they'll do just that on Friday.
