Week 13 College Football Predictions: Teams That Will Cap off Cinderella Seasons

Ryan RudnanskyNov 24, 2011

What better way to cap off a Cinderella season than with a victory in the final game of the regular season?

Three teams in particular have risen above preseason expectations this year, surprising virtually everybody while unveiling a few secret weapons on the roster.

You look at these teams now and wonder how they were ever unranked.

Here are three Cinderellas that will finish the regular season strong.

3. Baylor (No. 18)

Baylor is a fan favorite this season particularly because of the play of the outstanding Robert Griffin III.

Behind Griffin, the Bears have upset then-No. 14 TCU to start the season and just shocked then-No. 5 Oklahoma last week with a 45-38 victory off a last-second beauty of a pass from Griffin to Terrance Williams.

They have a poor defense, giving up 36.2 points per game, but they win because they simply outscore opponents.

That won't change against Texas Tech, a strong offensive team that is nonetheless giving up 36.8 points per game this season.

Griffin will have a field day.

2. Houston (No. 8)

Houston is this season's Boise State, going undefeated but still not being given the opportunity to play in the BCS Championship Game.

At 11-0, the Cougars, led by record-setting quarterback Case Keenum, have averaged 53.1 points per game, first in college football.

In a big conference game against SMU in Week 12, Houston won easily, 37-7, as Keenum threw for 318 yards and a touchdown.

Week 13 is an even bigger matchup for the Cougars, facing 8-3 Tulsa with a trip to the conference championship game on the line.

Unfortunately for Tulsa, the Golden Hurricane don't have the defense to keep up with Houston, and the Cougars will finish off a Cinderella regular season.

1. Clemson (No. 17)

This would obviously be a big upset against No. 12 South Carolina, but I have faith in Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd, who has struggled as of late.

Boyd has thrown six interceptions to three touchdowns in his last three games, but before that he was simply dominant. Part of the problem in Week 12 was the fact that he got sacked six times with tackle Phillip Price out.

But Price is likely to return in Week 13, as is star freshman receiver Sammy Watkins, who has racked up over 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns this season.

South Carolina is averaging 29.7 points per game this season, but since the departure of quarterback Stephen Garcia, the offense has had trouble scoring, with the exception of the game against Citadel, and I think they won't be able to outscore Clemson.
