College Football Week 13 Picks: BCS Top 25 Teams That Won't Survive the Weekend
Week 12 gave us a full season's worth of major upsets in the span of two days, as Oklahoma State, Oregon and Oklahoma all came crashing down.
Now we're left wondering, what kind of madness does Week 13 have in store for us?
The LSU vs. Arkansas game is the only matchup that anybody seems to be focusing on right now, and with good reason, but there are plenty of other Top 25 teams that are in jeopardy of falling this weekend.
Prepare yourself for some major shakeups all throughout the Week 14 BCS standings.
Here's a look at seven Top 25 teams that could have trouble surviving the weekend.
No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks
1 of 7It’s been the type of season where wild upsets have really shaken things up at the top of the BCS standings, but this is the game that could possibly just blow the computers completely up.
If No. 3 Arkansas can somehow find a way to pull off the ultimate victory of the season over LSU, the only undefeated BCS team that’s left, it would send the craziness into overdrive and send everyone scrambling, trying to figure out what to do next.
My gut tells me that we won’t have to worry about that, though.
LSU is playing with the type of swagger and attitude that no team can match right now, and with the prize in sight, it’s hard to imagine the Tigers folding now.
QB Tyler Wilson and that Arkansas offense can be dangerous, but if the Tigers don’t come out flat, they should have no problem making it to the SEC championship game unscathed.
No. 5 Virginia Tech Hokies
2 of 7It’s not often that the Virginia Tech vs. Virginia game has a direct effect on the ACC championship race, but this particular meeting will ultimately decide the Coastal division.
Virginia Tech has been inconsistent all year long, and you can make a strong case that the Hokies don’t belong anywhere near the No. 5 ranking when you consider the type of weak schedule they played, and the type of opponents they’ve beaten (just one win over a ranked team).
Yet, Frank Beamer has somehow found a way to guide his team back to the doorstep of an ACC championship once again.
Going to Virginia and beating the Cavs will be no easy feat, though.
Mike London is working wonders in Charlottesville, but the question is, is his team ready for the spotlight just yet?
Virginia Tech QB Logan Thomas can be hot or cold, and his temperature will have a major effect on the outcome of this game.
No. 6 Stanford Cardinal
3 of 7Notre Dame will head out west to take on Stanford on Saturday. After watching the Cardinal struggle mightily in their last two games, it’s hard to say that the Irish will be all that intimidated.
Brian Kelly’s crew knows they can contain Stanford star quarterback Andrew Luck after holding him to just 238 passing yards and picking him off twice in last year’s meeting.
Although it seems like a different team playing each Saturday, Notre Dame does have the talent to go toe-to-toe with Stanford, but in the end, it’s really going to be about how well QB Tommy Rees performs and if the Irish can keep their mistakes to a minimum.
No. 8 Houston Cougars
4 of 7Houston hasn’t had any problems this year, as they’ve rolled over countless inferior foes on their way to an 11-0 record. But now that the Cougars have finally entered the Top 10 of the BCS and the reality of possibly making it to a BCS bowl has set in, it will be interesting to see if they can handle the pressure.
A noon kickoff, on the road, the day after Thanksgiving against a Tulsa team that has its own potent offense, might be a recipe for disaster.
Tulsa’s G.J. Kinne is every bit as talented as Case Keenum, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a shootout break out between the two quarterbacks.
No. 13 Georgia Bulldogs
5 of 7Georgia has sealed up its berth in the SEC championship game, and now the Bulldogs’ attention has to be somewhat focused on Atlanta.
Sure, winning the Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate game against Georgia Tech would be meaningful, but when the players are in Atlanta on Saturday, their minds will probably be more focused on the Georgia Dome than Bobby Dodd Stadium.
No. 19 Penn State Nittany Lions
6 of 7Penn State picked up its first post-scandal victory of the season over Ohio State last Saturday, but the Nittany Lions will have a much more difficult time finding success against Wisconsin this weekend.
QB Russell Wilson, RB Montee Ball and the rest of the Badgers are on a mission to get to the Big Ten championship game and avenge their loss to Michigan State, and it doesn’t look like Penn State’s mediocre offense has the firepower to keep up.
No. 24 Auburn Tigers
7 of 7Does Auburn have a puncher’s chance against Alabama?
Sure, this is a rivalry game, and the Tigers have home-field advantage, so you never know what can happen. But all it takes is one quick look at these two rosters to see why Auburn will be a heavy three-touchdown underdog for this one.
If RB Michal Dyer doesn’t get going early, it’s hard to see Auburn doing much damage against Alabama’s daunting defense.
