LSU vs Arkansas: Can Tyler Wilson Get Back into Heisman Race With a Big Upset?

Randy ChambersNov 23, 2011

There are only a couple weeks left in the college football regular season before we begin conference championships and the bowl season. Mostly everybody has their Heisman favorites by now and it would take something really special to add somebody else to that list.

The Arkansas Razorbacks take on the No.1 team in the country in undefeated LSU this Friday. What if the junior quarterback Tyler Wilson puts on a show and pulls off the upset?

Does he jump some of the players on the already established Heisman list and possibly receive an invite to New York?

Wilson hasn't received much Heisman love throughout the year, but he has been very productive for this Arkansas team. When running back Knile Davis went down with a season-ending injury, a ton of pressure was put on the junior quarterback and for the most part, he hasn't missed a beat.

He's the reason the Razorbacks have the 10th-best passing game in the country, averaging 316 yards a game. The one-dimensional offense only averages 146 yards on the ground. It's fair to say that without Wilson the Razorbacks wouldn't even be in this position as the No.3 team in the nation.

Wilson has thrown for the 12th-most yards in the country with 3,215, which is more than Matt Barkley and Andrew Luck. He's also thrown for 21 touchdown passes and only five interceptions.

Only once this season has he thrown for less than 200 yards and that was against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The numbers are there and his team is successful and has a chance to possibly move on to the national championship.

A win this weekend over the Tigers would give Wilson that Heisman moment every winner needs to have. The Tigers only give up an average of 158 passing yards a game.

Say Wilson goes in there are throws for over 275 yards, three touchdowns and the Razorbacks win. He has to be considered for the award, right?

It would be something he would have over Heisman favorite Trent Richardson as well.

Wilson may not win the Heisman or even receive an invite, but a victory would put the Razorbacks and himself in a great position moving forward.
