BCS Rankings: Predicting the End of Season Top 10

Randy ChambersNov 26, 2011

The college football regular season is rapidly coming to a close as teams are beginning to prepare for conference championships and the bowl season. What a season it has been, full of controversy and upsets. It has been fantastic with a ton of different storylines to choose from.

But as the regular season comes to a close, it's about time to predict the final BCS Rankings.

Here is how the final Top 10 will look once the college football season is over.

10. Kansas State Wildcats

1 of 10

How about those Wildcats? They are one of those teams that nobody even mentioned in the beginning of the year but will likely finish 10-2 and will probably accept the invite to the AT&T Cotton Bowl.

The Wildcats are one of those teams that don't do anything particularity well but they find ways to win. You can't really argue with that as they are one of the surprise teams of college football.

A Top 10 finish is really something to build on moving forward.

9. Virginia Tech Hokies

2 of 10

I have the Hokies falling in the rankings because I believe they'll lose to Virginia this weekend. This Virginia Tech team isn't the team we're all use to seeing and has struggled all season long. Virginia will be pumped up for this game and the motivated Cavaliers will pull off an upset.

Virginia Tech tumbles in the rankings and ends up settling for the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

8. Boise State Broncos

3 of 10

Boise State suffers another disappointing season because of a late missed field goal. It's really a shame that Kellen Moore's career is going to end like this, but that's the price you pay when your team gets caught looking ahead.

The Broncos went from a BCS bid and possible National Championship to likely ending up in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

Ouch.

7. Oregon Ducks

4 of 10

Oregon will move up a couple of spots because they'll win the Pac-12 easily. This season could have been much more successful if you take just one more loss away from the record. But a trip to the Rose Bowl isn't that bad as it could have been much worse.

I just hope that the Ducks don't forget their offense at home when they take on likely Wisconsin. They're going to need it.

6. Houston Cougars

5 of 10

Many will criticize Houston for playing such a weak schedule but they're undefeated and will likely win the C-USA. You can't really hate them for what conference they happen to be in.

Houston has one of the top offenses in the country and one of the most impressive quarterbacks in Case Keenum. The Cougars are finally getting some love and will make a BCS bowl.

It's going to be interesting to see how this team holds up against a team from the SEC or Big 12.

5. Arkansas Razorbacks

6 of 10

You can't expect Arkansas to fall too far in the rankings with a loss to the top team in the country. The Razorbacks had a fantastic season; they just happened to be playing in the toughest division in college football.

Their only two losses on the season have come against Alabama and Arkansas.

The good news for Razorback fans is that if LSU and Alabama both make the National Championship game, they're eligible for a BCS bid as well.

4. Stanford Cardinal

7 of 10

Stanford may not be able to win the Pac-12 but they finish the season ranked in the Top 5 and will earn a BCS at-large bid. The Cardinal shouldn't have that much of a problem against Notre Dame this weekend and they'll finish the season 11-1.

Andrew Luck and company will be selected by some BCS bowl because they're a hard team to pass up with the star power they have.

3. Oklahoma State Cowboys

8 of 10

The Oklahoma State Cowboys were just one win away from a National Championship, but now they will have to settle for the Fiesta Bowl. The Cowboys got caught looking ahead to the Oklahoma Sooners and ended up losing to Iowa State.

Oklahoma State shouldn't really have a problem beating the Sooners as they haven't looked like the same team the past couple of weeks. Their offense struggles to score points and the defense hasn't looked good either.

The Cowboys move up to No.3.

2. Alabama Crimson Tide

9 of 10

All Alabama has to do is win against Auburn this weekend and they'll stay in their No.2 spot and head to the National Championship. Although many won't like to see a rematch between LSU-Alabama, it's hard to argue that they truly aren't the top two teams in the country.

The Crimson Tide's only loss came against LSU by a field goal in overtime. They have a very similar style to LSU as they love to run the football and rely heavily on their defense.

College football fans complain that the voters don't ever get it right. Alabama-LSU in the National Championship is as accurate as you can get to the two top teams.

1. LSU Tigers

10 of 10

I know it's possible that the Tigers could lose to Arkansas or Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, but at the same time there's a greater possibility they won't. LSU has proven they are the best team in the country by beating six ranked opponents and possibly eight if they continue to run the table.

Even with one loss it's hard to say LSU isn't the top team in college football.

Their defense is as good as advertised and they run the ball as well as any team in the country. If the Tigers are going to lose this season, it's going to take a strong effort from the other team.
