Urban Meyer Ohio State: Why It Is Obvious Coveted Coach Will Sign with Buckeyes

It’s one of the worst kept secrets in America that Urban Meyer is going to be the next head coach at Ohio State University. 

Oh come on now Urban, just come out and say, “I will be the next head coach at Ohio State.” It will save all of us a lot of time and speculation about will he or won’t he take over the program next year. Plus it will enable current head coach Luke FIckell time to find another coaching job. 

However, what we get from Urban are lame statements like, “If something happens with Ohio State, I’ll have a decision to make.” “But there has been no interview. There has been no offer to make a decision about.”

No interview or offer, really? 

Then why did Urban’s current employer, ESPN, pull him from his work as a color commentator this weekend? Instead of going to Michigan to work the  Michigan vs. Ohio State game, they felt he was more needed in studio at Bristol, CT?

The reason has to be because if Urban is in Ann Arbor for the Michigan vs. Ohio State game, the story becomes more about Meyer and Ohio State and not about one of the best rivalries in college football. Not to mention if Meyer is at the game with all of these rumors around, who knows what the crazy Michigan fan base would say to him. 

For now Meyer will stay quiet at least until this Ohio State regular season is over. It seems as if he doesn’t want to overshadow the job that Luke Fickell is doing this year. 

However, his say nothing attitude is doing just that, it’s overshadowing everything surrounding this game on Saturday. If Urban would come out and say that he’s interested in the position, it would quiet down the speculation and allow for the program to focus on the Michigan game. 

With Meyer saying that he is on board, it just may land an extra recruit that might be visiting Michigan this weekend. If Urban is the next head coach, it will finally put an end to the Jim Tressell scandal that has decimated this year’s Buckeyes team. 

For the sake of Buckeye Nation, Coach Meyer should come out and finally say what we already know. That at the end of the 2011 Ohio State football year, he will take over as the head coach.
