BCS Rankings: 3 Underappreciated Teams That Will Finish Strong

Ryan RudnanskyNov 21, 2011

There are always those teams every college football season that don't get due respect, whether it be because of their conference, strength of schedule or underwhelming program history.

But getting down to the final two weeks of college football's regular season, there are some schools who are determined to make a name for themselves and will do so emphatically.

Here are three underappreciated teams that will be soaring by season's end.

3. Michigan (No. 15)

The Michigan Wolverines had a tough loss against unranked Iowa, but their only other loss was against Michigan State, which has proven to be a Top 15 team.

In Week 12, the Wolverines, led by quarterback Denard Robinson, blitzed then-No. 16 Nebraska, 45-17.

Unranked coming into the season and coming off a disappointing 2010 campaign, Brady Hoke's Wolverines have shocked everyone, which is probably why they still don't get a lot of respect.

Their final game of the regular season is against Ohio State and they'll go out on a high note.

2. Baylor (No. 18)

Led by top pro prospect Robert Griffin III, the Baylor Bears have stormed through their competition this season, with big wins against then-No. 14 TCU and then-No. 5 Oklahoma in Week 12.

The Bears' defense is one of the worst in the nation, but you can't deny this team's excellence behind Griffin.

Oklahoma found that out the hard way and so will Texas Tech and No. 25 Texas.

1. Houston (No. 8)

The Houston Cougars are the new Boise State, a program that has gone undefeated, but still finds itself out of the title game discussion.

Ironically, the Cougars are ranked behind Boise State this season despite Boise State losing to unranked TCU.

But no matter.

Case Keenum and the Cougars will win their last game of the season against Tulsa and finish the regular season 12-0.

Keenum has now passed for over 4,200 yards and 38 touchdowns while coughing the ball up just three times.
