BCS Bowl Predictions: 2-Loss Teams with Best BCS Chances
Top-ranked teams dropped like flies this weekend, leaving just eight programs with one or no losses on the season. With just one game to go before the conference championships, this trio of teams is in the best position of the crowded pool of two-loss squads in the Top 25:
Oklahoma Sooners
Had the Sooners managed to hold off Baylor last night, they’d be in the discussion for the national championship game. Instead, they’ll need a tough road win against 10-1 Oklahoma State to have a shot at a BCS bid.
If OU wins in Stillwater, it’s possible the Big 12 could still get two BCS teams, with the Sooners earning a Fiesta Bowl spot. If Landry Jones and company suffer their third loss against the Cowboys though, they’ll be headed to the Cotton Bowl.
Oregon Ducks
Another upset victim, the Ducks can count their blessings that they’re in the same Pac-12 division as Stanford. Oregon and the Cardinals each have one conference loss, but the Ducks’ head-to-head win will send them to the inaugural conference championship game, where they’ll be prohibitive favorites against (most likely) unranked Utah.
Barring a mammoth upset, the Ducks will wind up in the Rose Bowl to slaughter the sacrificial Big Ten champions. Speaking of whom…
Wisconsin Badgers
The lesson of the Big Ten season is that any of the leading teams can lose to any of the others. Wisconsin, though, seems to be in the best position to come out on top in the first-ever conference title game.
The Badgers can clinch a berth in Indianapolis with a home win over Penn State, setting up a rematch with Michigan State. The Spartans only won by six (37-31) in East Lansing and on a neutral field, the Badgers will be the pick.
