BCS Rankings Week 13: Which Teams Are on Rise After Wacky Weekend?

Tim DanielsNov 20, 2011

After the craziest three-day span of the college football season, everybody is looking forward to this week's BCS rankings. Teams like Arkansas and Virginia Tech are guaranteed to make big jumps before Week 13, but which other teams will reap the benefits of chaos? Let's examine.

No. 9 Stanford Cardinal

Stanford was on upset alert until an onside kick recovery late in the fourth quarter against California. The Cardinal aren't too worried about style points after watching several top-10 teams fall, though. They will just be happy to survive and advance.

Andrew Luck threw two touchdown passes in a driving rain to help solidify his status as a Heisman contender after a week of questions about who should overtake him.

Stanford gets a solid test against Notre Dame next week and will be cheering for Oregon State to upset Oregon.

Projected Ranking: No. 5

No. 11 Houston Cougars

Houston kept its BCS dreams alive with an easy 30-point win over Southern Methodist. Even though it was the first time since mid-September that the Cougars scored less than 40 points, the coaching staff will be happy to see how the defense stepped up.

It won't be clear sailing for Houston next week, however. They have to go on the road against Tulsa, which is also undefeated in Conference USA. A win would provide a nice boost to Houston's resume, but a loss would be the end of any at-large talk.

Projected Ranking: No. 8

No. 13 Kansas State Wildcats

The computers already loved Kansas State before the team's win over Texas on Saturday, with all but one of them ranking the Wildcats sixth or seventh. Perhaps the voters will finally start showing them a little more respect after knocking off the No. 23 Longhorns.

It's a win that gives the Wildcats two wins over ranked opponents. Their only losses came against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

All they can do now is beat Iowa State, which is coming off a victory against the Cowboys, and hope for more big upsets to help them out.

Projected Ranking: No. 11
