Oregon and Oklahoma Upset: Why Playoff Is Only Way to Settle 2012 BCS Debacle
College football is the only entity that does not have a playoff system in their post season to determine their champion. After what we saw happen to not only three of the top five teams, but four of the top ten, the NCAA has to implement a playoff system now.
Because there is no playoff system, the top three teams in the next BCS Standings will not only be from the same conference but from the same division inside of that conference.
When the next BCS Standings come out we will see LSU, Alabama and Arkansas all SEC West Division members as No. 1, 2 and 3. The alarming thing isn’t that these three teams all come from the same conference. However, it's shocking that with a win for Arkansas against LSU next week, it will send a three-way tie atop of the SEC West division.

Not only will we get a cluster for the right to play in the SEC Championship game, but also the BCS championship game.
All of this confusion of who should be playing in the championship game could be cleared up with one easy solution.
Get a playoff system in place right now.
The playoff system would make all of this confusion and worry that one conference is dominating the college football scene go away. There wouldn’t be so much riding on a game in the middle of November.
With a playoff system in place teams like Alabama and Oregon would not have seen their seasons come crashing down after bad performances from their kickers. Should we see kickers determine our national championship game, no.
Instead, because we rely on a system that punishes teams that have one bad game, it comes down to one person. Using this system destroys a team who won their first ten games only to lose in their last game of the season.
Having a playoff system would not ruin a great 10-2, 11-1 season.
The BCS has to go now. A college football playoff with eight teams will be the best way to figure the national champion.
Let’s just hope the BCS members come to their senses and use the playoff structure soon before we are sent into further chaos.
