Kentucky vs. Georgia: 5 Things We Learned from the Bulldogs Win Against Kentucky
It wasn't pretty, but the Bulldogs came away with a 19-10 win over the Kentucky Wildcats and clinched the SEC Eastern Division title.
Kentucky led 10-6 at one point, but the defense frustrated the Wildcats all game long, and the offense and special teams did just enough to get by.
But after this game one has to think, did the Bulldogs overlook the Wildcats, or did Kentucky find a way to slow down the Bulldog offense?
Here's five things to take away from the Bulldogs win.
Isaiah Crowell Needs to Be More Tough
1 of 5One of the reasons the Bulldogs struggled on offense is the running game could not get going.
Isaiah Crowell only carried the ball two times because he had to leave the game with an injury.
This has been a constant thing for Crowell, and fans are getting tired of it. He's the team's best running back, and in order for the Bulldogs to win the SEC title, he has to be on the field at all times.
Aaron Murray Is a Gamer
2 of 5Aaron Murray struggled in the win because the Kentucky defense was doing whatever they could to take his receivers out of the game.
But he did throw a TD pass to Marlon Brown at the start of the fourth quarter to clinch the game for the Bulldogs.
He's not going to put up the numbers like he did against Auburn every time he's on the field, but good quarterbacks find ways to win and Murray did that on Saturday.
Blair Walsh Is Getting Better
3 of 5The struggles of Blair Walsh this year is puzzling for fans, but he made all four of his field goal attempts, which turned out to be enough to beat the Wildcats.
Walsh has seemed to find his stroke, and the Bulldogs are going to need him if they want to beat Georgia Tech and win the SEC Championship.
The Defense Is Not Far Behind Alabama and LSU
4 of 5Overall, the defense has improved each game. The only reason they surrendered 10 points was the offense turned the ball over deep in their own territory early in the game, which led to points for the Wildcats.
But after that, the defense pressured Kentucky quarterback Maxwell Smith all game long, and the running game could never get going.
Players such as Jarvis Jones, Branden Smith and Shawn Williams have played well all season long, and credit has to go to Todd Grantham for getting the players that he wanted and putting them in position to make plays.
Carlton Thomas Is Needed More Than Anyone Thought
5 of 5Because Crowell was hurt and Carlton Thomas did not play due to personal reasons, the Bulldogs lacked depth at the running back spot and could not get the running game going.
Thomas is not an every down back, but he does have experience and knows how to protect the football. He has improved this season and will be used a lot the next two weeks.
