BCS Rankings: Oregon Ducks and More Teams Deserving of a Chance at BCS Title

Luis BatlleNov 19, 2011

While the BCS system, for the most part, consistently ranks the more elite teams in the nation correctly, there is the inevitable fact that only two teams play in the BCS title.

Are there more than two teams deserving of a spot in this game? Without question.

Starting with the remarkable play of the No. 4 Oregon Ducks—winners of nine consecutive football games—there are several teams that are deserving a shot at the LSU Tigers in the BCS championship game.

Here are the Oregon Ducks and the three teams deserving of a chance at the BCS title with the seasons they have put together in 2011.

The Oregon Ducks (9-1)

With the Oregon Ducks coming into their matchup against the USC Trojans, there is no question these Ducks are more than capable of playing for a BCS title.

Since their season opener resulted in a 40-27 loss to the No. 1 LSU Tigers, the Ducks have not lost a game since, and are steamrolling over the competition. The Ducks have won each game by no less than 14 points and have beaten two Top 20 teams in Standford and Arizona State.

Not to mention—they have picked up their play as of late, beating No. 4 Stanford by a score of 53-30.

Talk about a victory.

Beating USC would put the icing on the cake. There is no question they are one of the more high-powered offenses in the nation, to go along with their especially solid defense.

They should be playing for a BCS title.

The team features arguably the best running back in the nation in LaMichael James, who had missed two games, and is less than 200 yards from leading the nation in rushing.

Alabama Crimson Tide (9-1)

Much like the case with the Oregon Ducks, the only thing that has held the Crimson Tide from the No. 2 seed was a loss to No.1 LSU this season.

Yet, in the case of Alabama, the Crimson Tide have several quality victories over some of the top teams in the nation. This season, the Crimson Tide beat No. 23 Penn State, who are currently atop the Big Ten, took down No. 14 Arkansas and No. 12 Florida with convincing wins in back-to-back weeks early in the year.

A 9-6 loss to the LSU Tigers in overtime is the only game that holds this team back from being the No. 2 team in the nation.

Talk about a travesty.

To put it into perspective, the Tigers had not been within 28 points of a team at the end of each of the games before playing the Crimson Tide. This Alabama team is a team that prides itself defensively, boasting the No. 1 defense in the nation while ranking at No. 18 rushing the football.

There is no question the Crimson Tide make a case at being national champions with the type of season running back Tony Richardson and the Crimson Tide have put together.

Oklahoma Sooners (9-1)

Much like Oregon, the Oklahoma Sooners are a high-powered offensive team that currently rank No. 6 in the nation, scoring 45.4 points per contest.

The offense is led by quarterback Landry Jones, who has thrown for over 3,349 yards and 28 touchdowns on the year. The Sooners have an exciting offense that seems to be clicking on all cylinders this entire season.

Scoring at least 40 points in four of their last five games, it is evident this team wins their games on the offensive side of the ball. The impressive amount of points they scored have come against top-notch teams.

These include No. 8 Kansas State and No. 11 Texas, where they would score 58 and 55 points, respectively.

With another quality win over once No. 5 Florida State in the second week of the season, there is no question the Sooners can make the case as the No. 2 team in the nation.

They are a team worthy of a shot at a national title.
