Nebraska vs. Michigan: Predicting Which Bowl Game Each Team Is Headed to
The Michigan Wolverines’ ability to rush the football and capitalize on Nebraska's special teams' blunders proved to be the difference against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the 45-17 victory.
The game came down to a pivotal fourth-quarter roughing-the-kicker call that allowed Michigan’s drive to continue and end in a touchdown to make the game a three-possession game rather than a two-possession one.
At first glance, I thought the call should have been a running-into-the-kicker call, which would have forced Michigan to still punt, but after seeing that he took out the plant foot, it was the right call.
But, that’s not why the Cornhuskers lost. They were outplayed, and now, both of these teams are playing for a strong bowl game, and that’s it.
What got the Cornhuskers to the big dance is, unfortunately for them, what betrayed them today. They couldn’t stop Michigan’s offense, and because of this game’s result, these are the bowl games that both teams have awaiting them.
Nebraska: Insight Bowl
1 of 2The Cornhuskers' hopes of winning the Big Ten Championship all went down the drain with the key loss to Michigan today.
Nebraska held a victory over the one-loss Michigan State team, and had the Spartans tripped up in these last two weeks of play, the Cornhuskers would have represented the Legends in the championship game.
That’s all history, and now, Nebraska is playing to make a solid bowl. While the Insight bowl isn’t the Capitol One Bowl, Cotton Bowl or even the Outback Bowl, it’s still a fairly decent bowl game.
Whoever the Cornhuskers play, they will have to play better, sound football on defense, and Taylor Martinez has to become more effective throwing the football.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Nebraska, take better care of the football. Perhaps, the biggest reason you lost is because of your special teams' blunders.
You can’t continue to cough up the football on special teams and make mistakes. or you will lose. It’s as simple as that.
Football’s only as hard as you make it, and when you turn the ball over, it becomes quite difficult. Just a terrible performance by the Cornhuskers.
Michigan: Outback Bowl
2 of 2While this game turned out to be a total disaster for Nebraska, the game couldn’t have gone better for the Wolverines.
They capitalized on mistakes, they rushed the ball well and they took good care of the football. Now, looking ahead to next week’s big showdown with that school from Ohio, these Wolverines need to take care of business once again.
Denard Robinson has the opportunity to be the first quarterback to defeat Ohio State since 2003, and you better believe he knows that and wants to achieve that.
Should the Wolverines defeat the Buckeyes, I believe they will land in the Outback Bowl. The reason I think they'll go there is because I think Wisconsin and Michigan State will occupy the Rose Bowl and the Capitol One Bowl. That leaves the Outback Bowl open for the Wolverines, and to be honest, that’s not a terrible bowl game.
Obviously, the Wolverines anticipated a bigger bowl game when they were 6-0, but losing to Iowa and Michigan State really hurt them in the end.
But this school has seen darker days recently with Rich Rodriguez, and I think the Michigan faithful will be pleased with the Outback.
