Nebraska vs. Michigan: Wolverines Need What They Lack This Season, Statement Win
This is a big week for Big Ten football as a lot of the games will help determine who makes it the conference championship. One of the big games this weekend features the Nebraska Cornhuskers against the Michigan Wolverines.
These teams are very similar. They both play decent defense, love to run the ball and have quarterbacks that couldn't hit the side of a barn when they throw it. Despite their similarities, Nebraska does have a few statement wins with victories over Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State.
Michigan has none.
You would think that a team that is ranked No. 18 in the BCS would have at least one win against a quality opponent, but they don't. They have yet to beat a ranked team this season and the strongest victory of the year was against a 7-3 Notre Dame team.
The Irish have a good team statistically but they struggle against weaker opponents and are nowhere near an elite team.
This is a game for Michigan to prove that they are back after struggling for so many seasons. Michigan does have an 8-2 record this year, but they really haven't played anybody. And the two decent teams they played in Michigan State and Iowa, they lost.
Nebraska can be inconsistent at times, but at least they're ranked and have proven that they deserve their ranking. Michigan, on the other hand, has yet to do so with only two games left in the season.
A win this weekend over Nebraska would not only prove that they're no overrated, but it would also set the tone heading into next season.
It's time for the Wolverines to make a statement.
