Real Madrid vs. Dinamo Zagreb: Complete Preview, Start Time and Schedule

Josh MartinNov 17, 2011

Real Madrid will look to once again keep Dinamo Zagreb without a point in UEFA Champions League play in Group D when the two sides meet again, this time at the Bernabeu. Los Blancos overcame a wave of adversity when they last faced off with the Plavi in Zagreb, claiming victory on a goal by Angel Di Maria in the 53rd minute despite the loss of Marcelo to a quick pair of bookings and the absence of manager Jose Mourinho on account of a touchline ban.

Madrid have already secured a spot in the knockout round of the competition but would like nothing more than to pour it on against the Croatian champions.

Player To Watch for Real Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo

Few players in the sport today are as entertaining to watch in motion as Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar has chipped in three goals and two assists in Champions League play thus far.

As always, he will bring plenty of excitement to the pitch alongside the likes of Karim Benzema, Gonzalo Higuain and Mesut Ozil, though he won't be shy to hog the spotlight for himself.

Player To Watch for Dinamo Zagreb: Fatos Beciraj

The Plavi have yet to notch a single goal in Champions League play and, as such, will look to Fatos Beciraj to get them on the board. The big Montenegrin striker leads the club in goals but came in as a substitute in the first tilt with Madrid. If Beciraj gets involved in this match, Zagred may yet have a chance to hang with Los Blancos in Madrid.

Key Matchup: Real Madrid vs. themselves

Realistically, the only way Los Blancos can lose this game is if they beat themselves. They haven't dropped a match of any kind since September and don't figure to start now unless they find their guaranteed place in the Round of 16 to be too comfortable.

Even then, Madrid's talent would still be enough to overcome whatever lapses may befall them, though the home supporters figure to keep this star-studded squad on its toes.

What They're Saying

As if Madrid needed any help in their attack, ESPN Soccernet is reporting that current AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic wanted to join Los Blancos on a transfer while with Barcelona back in 2010, after his relationship with Pep Guardiola deteriorated. Not surprisingly, Barca president Sandro Rosell turned down his request:

"

"The president said: 'I understand the situation. Which club do you want to join?' I replied: 'Madrid.' Rosell replied: 'That is not possible. You can go anywhere but there.'"

"

Not that Ibra would have been a good fit with Madrid, seeing as how he's so quickly worn out his welcome just about everywhere he's played.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2, Dinamo Zagreb 0

Zagreb's scoreless streak in European play will continue against a Madrid side that, while having little actual motivation, will still be far too talented at every position for the Plavi to have even a prayer. Los Blancos won't embarrass Zagreb, though, as they'll look to take care of business quickly and efficiently before resting up for an important stretch, which includes dates against Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in "El Clasico."
