Nebraska vs. Michigan: Michigan Will Win with or Without Denard Robinson

Randy ChambersNov 17, 2011

It's an important week if you're a Big Ten fan as there are a lot of big games this weekend that will help decide who wins the divisions and eventually the conference. One of those big games that will eliminate the loser from conference title contention is Nebraska-Michigan.

Oddsmakers have Michigan as the slight favorite to win this game but things could change if their best player doesn't start. Quarterback Denard Robinson injured his wrist last week against Illinois and ended up missing most of the second half because of it.

He has been upgraded to probable and head coach Brady Hoke does believe he will play in the big game.

"He threw the ball very well," Hoke said. "He just got a little sprain on his wrist, and he's in good shape."

That's a good sign for Michigan fans considering Robinson is a key player and really makes this offense go. But even if he has a setback and isn't ready to suite up, the Wolverines should still be fine.

Nebraska is a very inconsistent team and they have been all year. They get destroyed by Wisconsin but come back and win against Ohio State and Michigan State. Right when you're ready to buy into them they go ahead and lose to Northwestern.

This team struggles to score points with Taylor Martinez at quarterback and have almost no passing game whatsoever. The defense holds its opponents to 22 points per contest but makes very few big plays to help out the offense.

The Cornhuskers are ranked dead last in the Big Ten in tackles for loss with 39. They're ranked 11th out of 12 teams with only five forced fumbles. The most important stat is that they get little pressure on the quarterback and only have 15 sacks on the year.

That doesn't look good when you're going up against one of the most mobile quarterbacks in college football.

If Robinson can't play in this game the Wolverines will continue to lean on running back Fitzgerald Toussaint who has really come alive the past couple of weeks. The defense should be able to stop the one dimensional offense of Nebraska and Devin Gardner should be able to manage the game well.

Both of these teams have their fair share of struggles but Michigan has the better defense, more playmakers on offense and are the home team.

The Wolverines should win this game regardless of who plays quarterback on Saturday.
