Heisman Trophy Odds: Oklahoma State Cowboys Are Starting To Make Some Noise
The 2011 Heisman Trophy hasn't been engraved with a name as of yet, and the betting market has seen some players making a move up the odds board.
Stanford Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck has been the betting favorite since the season began, but he's looking vulnerable after last Saturday's Pac-12 Conference loss to the Oregon Ducks.
With just a few weeks remaining, Oklahoma State's talented pass-catch duo of quarterback Brandon Weeden and wide receiver Justin Blackmon are starting to make some noise.
Let's take a look at the nine players still alive from a betting perspective.
Russell Wilson, Wisconsin Badgers QB
1 of 9Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Russell Wilson has enjoyed a spectacular year statistically after transferring from the NC State Wolfpack, leading the country with a 201.6 pass efficiency rating.
He should be proud of piloting one of two college football offenses that's averaging over 240 yards rushing and passing.
Odds: +5000
Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State Cowboys WR
2 of 9Oklahoma State Cowboys wide receiver Justin Blackmon will likely win a second straight Fred Biletnikoff Award, but his quarterback is getting more notoriety for this piece of hardware.
He has managed to grab 204 passes in his last 22 games, while ranking third nationally in averaging 9.3 catches per game.
He certainly knows how to score, catching a touchdown pass in 21 of his last 22 games.
Odds: +5000
Kellen Moore, Boise State Broncos QB
3 of 9Boise State Broncos senior quarterback Kellen Moore likely saw his chances of winning the Heisman Trophy go out the window with last week's heartbreaking home loss against the TCU Horned Frogs.
He still leads all active signal-callers nationally with 46 career wins, while completing over 69 percent of his passes.
An impressive career that will end without playing in the big one.
Odds: +2500
Landry Jones, Oklahoma Sooners QB
4 of 9Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Landry Jones will certainly get to state his case in the season finale against Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden in Stillwater on Dec. 3.
He will be without star wide receiver Ryan Broyles for the rest of the year, but still ranks second among the nation's signal-callers in averaging 321.9 passing yards per game.
If the Sooners come out of that rivalry game with a win, it certainly becomes possible.
Odds: +2500
Case Keenum, Houston Cougars QB
5 of 9Houston Cougars quarterback Case Keenum will get plenty of media coverage this week when the school hosts ESPN College GameDay with the SMU Mustangs coming to town.
It's almost a certainty that the program walks away with a win Saturday, winning 20 consecutive home games as a ranked team.
The senior holds just about every career passing record imaginable, including 17,537 career yards through the air.
I know who Andre Ware will be voting for.
Odds: +1000
LaMichael James, Oregon Ducks RB
6 of 9The Oregon Ducks are really starting to make some noise after handing the Stanford Cardinal their first loss of the season, coming into this weekend's game with a 19-game win streak in conference play.
Junior running back LaMichael James seems to have healed from an elbow injury suffered earlier in the year, averaging just over 150 rushing yards per game.
Expect a big performance versus the USC Trojans on Saturday, as he's managed to gain 422 yards and four touchdowns in two career games in the series.
Odds: +1000
Trent Richardson, Alabama Crimson Tide RB
7 of 9Alabama Crimson Tide running back Trent Richardson certainly isn't out of the running for the Heisman Trophy, sitting just 92 yards behind Mark Ingram's pace when he walked away with the hardware in 2009 for the university.
It's important to note that Richardson's 18 touchdowns certainly overshadows Ingram's 10 at this stage of the game.
Odds: +250
Brandon Weeden, Oklahoma State Cowboys QB
8 of 9Oklahoma State Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden has moved into the second-choice role in the betting odds due to completing 67-of-83 passes for 925 yards and nine touchdowns in his last two games.
Perhaps the most impressive stat on his resume is his perfect 11-0 road record since he became the starting signal-caller in Stillwater.
Having weapons like wide receiver Justin Blackmon on the outside certainly makes things easier, allowing him to throw a touchdown strike in all 23 of his starts.
Odds: +175
Andrew Luck, Stanford Cardinal QB
9 of 9Stanford Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck doesn't have many explosive options in the receiving game, which showed up in a big way in last week's 53-30 home loss to the Oregon Ducks.
The team averages 46.4 points per game and has come away with points in all 57 trips inside the 20-yard line this season.
Cardinal first-year head coach David Shaw might call a few more passing plays in the final two games against the California Golden Bears and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
None of it will matter once he's chosen with the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
Odds: -200
