BCS Rankings 2011: Houston Cougars and More Teams Shafted by Week 12 Standings
The Houston Cougars are an undefeated 10-0, Case Keenum is a Heisman Trophy contender and they have the No. 1 offense in the nation. But they continue to get shafted by the BCS and held out of the Top 10 because of they are a Conference USA team.
Those who won't shut up about Boise State getting shafted by the BCS need to take a long look at Houston.
Somehow, the Broncos remain at No. 10 because they took down Georgia in the beginning of the season. They dropped the ball against TCU last week, yet remain in the Top 10 because of their one signature victory.
Houston puts up just under 55 PPG, and the resound with which they are winning makes them more than deserving of being in the Top 10. They've taken down every team they've played this year, and though they won't have an opportunity to come away with a signature victory in the regular season, their passing offense that puts up over 450 YPG would be tough for any team in the nation to handle.
They aren't the only team that was snubbed this week either. Here are two more teams who were equally disrespected by the rankings.
Oregon
Oregon didn't just beat Stanford, they ripped them apart. Their 53-30 victory over Andrew Luck and Stanford proves that they are the standard in the Pac-12. They move to 9-1 and have only lost to LSU, who happens to be the best team in the nation.
LaMichael James is playing like he's possessed, and the defense made Andrew Luck look foolish last week, picking off two ugly passes and tormenting him all night.
Yet Oregon remains at No. 4.
Alabama is ridiculously talented, and they may even be a better team than Oregon. Even so, they have no business being ranked ahead of the Ducks. Both teams lost to the same opponent, and Oregon's victory over Stanford dwarfs any win 'Bama has earned this season.
The Ducks don't deserve to be in the national championship picture just yet, but they are certainly deserving of being the alternate.
Notre Dame
Notre Dame has dismantled all three opponents they've come across since getting wrecked by USC. They have three losses on the season, all coming at the hands of talented teams. Their inability to take down USC, South Florida or Michigan should keep them out of the Top 15 all season long, but to still have them out of the Top 25 is ridiculous.
Baylor was embarrassed two weeks in a row, losing by over 25 points in consecutive weeks. They earned a big win over Missou, but had to pull off a miracle to take down Kansas by one point last week.
There isn't room in the Top 25 for the Fighting Irish? They don't have any glaring losses that would bar them from cracking the rankings, and their huge win over Michigan State early in the year should be enough to let them at least break into the rankings.
They face Boston College next week and No. 9 Stanford to close out the season. If they aren't ranked after this week, they won't be seeing the rankings again for the rest of the season.
