Mississippi State vs. Arkansas: TV, Radio, Live Streaming, Game Time and More

Wes ODonnellNov 15, 2011

The Mississippi State Bulldogs would love to play spoiler to the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Hogs know they have to win out to get a crack at the SEC Championship Game, but it is not entirely out of the question.

The Bulldogs are a better team than their record indicates. They've had an extremely tough schedule and some heartbreaking losses.

The Razorbacks, who have fallen only to the Alabama Crimson Tide, cannot take this team lightly.

Key Storyline: SEC Championship Talk

The Razorbacks believe they are worthy of an SEC Championship game berth. They'll get a chance to prove it against LSU in the final week of the season, but cannot overlook this game with the Bulldogs.

Everything hinges on the Razorbacks' ability to control this game.

That starts and ends with quarterback Tyler Wilson. If they want to talk about winning the SEC, the Hogs need to start with this game.

Mississippi State has no problem putting Arkansas in their place if they they're too worried about their future.

BCS/Top 25 Implications

Heavy. Mississippi State isn't crawling back into the rankings any time soon, but the Razorbacks have just tied a school-high No. 6 ranking in the BCS.

They not only have SEC Championship game aspirations, but potential BCS title game hopes, if something crazy happens.

A loss would send Arkansas spiraling out of contention in both races and land them in a bowl game they don't even want to think about right now.

What They're Saying

The AP report on Arkansas coming into this game talks about distractions surrounding the Razorbacks right now:

"

Several scenarios exist that would place Arkansas in the SEC championship game, but coach Bobby Petrino expects the Razorbacks to focus on the here and now. It's the same mentality that Petrino brought with him to Arkansas when he was hired, one he stuck with as the Razorbacks struggled to a 5-7 record his first season in 2008.

"

They need to take it one game at a time.

Player to Watch for Mississippi State: Vick Ballard, RB

The Bulldogs' quarterbacks have combined for 15 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions on the season.

They can be inconsistent and are part of the problem offensively.

Ballard is the rock, though. He's averaging 5.7 yards per carry on the season and has scored seven touchdowns. He has nearly 50 more carries than the next closest ball carrier, quarterback Chris Relf, and is their go-to player.

The senior is 221 yards away from 2,000 yards for his career and four touchdowns shy of 30 touchdowns.

Player to Watch for Arkansas: Jarius Wright, WR

The senior receiver is a straight-up spark plug. He's just shy of 1,000 yards and has 53 receptions. He has 10 touchdowns and is averaging a whopping 17.3 yards per catch.

He's stepped up into a key role in the absence of Greg Childs, and forms, with Joe Adams, of the best receiving duos in the SEC.

Tyler Wilson depends heavily on Wright for big plays; Wright has turned in a play of at least 30 yards in six different games this year.

Key Matchup: Mississippi State Secondary vs. Arkansas Receivers

The Hogs will have their hands full here.

Sophomores Nickoe Whitely and John Banks have combined for nine interceptions on the season for Mississippi State. The defense only gives 185 yards per game through the air.

The Razorbacks could turn to the run against a defense that gives up nearly as many yards on the ground as they do through the air, but this offense's strength lies with Wilson.

This secondary matched up with Wright and Adams will be fun to watch.

Prediction: Arkansas 38, Mississipi State 24
