BCS Rankings 2011: Which Teams Could Be Pushed out of the BCS Picture?

John FrielNov 15, 2011

A wild week of NCAA football has passed us, and the BCS standings have once again been shaken up.

With Stanford and Boise State seeing their chances of making the BCS title game go up in flames after a Cardinal loss to conference rival Oregon and a Broncos loss to TCU, you begin to think about who could possibly be joining them as a team that could only wonder what could have been if not for a key loss.

Oklahoma State

Currently ranked No. 2 in the BCS and AP rankings, the Oklahoma State Cowboys are supported by one of the nation's strongest offenses, led by quarterback Brandon Weeden who has sneaked in among possible Heisman candidates.

He has the Cowboys ranked second in the nation in passing yards at nearly 400 per game and second in points with nearly 52 per game.

After last week's tune-up game against Texas Tech and the upcoming matchup with Iowa State, the Cowboys will get their biggest test of the season against the in-state rival Oklahoma Sooners.

The Sooners could very well put an end to the Cowboys' dream season thanks in part to a much stronger defense and an equally strong offense led by Landry Jones.

Oregon

Winning nine games in a row after an opening-night loss to current No. 1 LSU, the Oregon Ducks will be featured in two trap games over the next two weeks with matchups against USC and Oregon State.

The Ducks are coming off a tremendous and emotional 23-point victory against the former No. 4 Stanford Cardinal and could be a little too focused on the postseason already. They'll need to prepare for a high-powered USC offense that has an 8-2 record and is led by one of the nation's top quarterbacks in Matt Barkley.

The Beavers are a dismal 2-8, but this is still a high-octane rivalry and there's no doubt that Oregon State will attempt to give the Ducks a run for their money.

Arkansas

With all the attention focused on LSU and Alabama, you tend to forget that there are four other teams from the SEC in the top 25 BCS rankings with Arkansas at No. 6 after a huge win against Tennessee.

The Razorbacks are 9-1 with their only loss coming by way of a blowout at Alabama, and they could very well see another one in the near future with LSU looming two weeks from now. I wouldn't discount Arkansas yet, considering they've beaten three ranked teams since the loss to Alabama. However, I certainly wouldn't have them favored against LSU.

A game against 5-5 Mississippi State this week could also spell trouble for a team possibly already looking ahead to the Tigers.
