Dorial Green-Beckham: 5 Reasons He Could Choose Missouri over Oklahoma
Dorial Green-Beckham is regarded as the the premier prep prospect in the land for 2012, by most publications. The 6'6", 220-pound WR has 4.4 speed and just about every tool you need to be a dominant receiver in college and perhaps further.
With offers from pretty much literally every major FBS program in the nation, "DGB" has kind of narrowed it down to a focus group of schools. I gave you a few reasons as to why Arkansas could be a better fit than Texas last week.
Now, here's a couple reasons Missouri could be a better fit than Oklahoma.
5. Maty Mauk
1 of 5Mauk is one the top QB prospects in the country this year, as he usually is somewhere around the top 10 QBs in the country on most lists. Mauk is a 6'2", 190-pound signal caller with some flair and smarts.
He's also put up video game numbers as a high schooler, as he's tossed for 17,770 yards and 208 TDs in his career. Man oh man!
With Missouri running a spread offense, to which is is comfortable in, and Mauk being a Tiger commit, if you're DGB, the chance to play with Mauk is a pro for Missouri.
4. Missorui to the SEC
2 of 5I listed the chance to play against SEC competition as a prime reason for Arkansas over Texas, last week. I urge you click on the link and check out the complete write up.
My main point is, if you're DGB and you want to face against the best and really develop and prepare for the NFL, SEC competition and CBs are the way to go.
3. Spread Offense
3 of 5Missouri has been known to run a wide open spread offense at times. In fact, I've seen them line four receivers on the same side of the field at times. Wow.
Plus, Michael Egnew caught 90 balls last year and he's a TE. SO if you're a 6'6", 220-pound WR with 4.3-4.4 speed, you're bound to catch a ton balls on accident alone in this system.
Green-Beckham could be thinking the same, or even more.
2. Chance of Early Playing Time
4 of 5Missouri has talented receivers on the roster, but Wes Kemp, Jerrell Jackson and even Michael Egnew are gone next year.
Oklahoma returns Kenny Stills, Trey Franks and Jaz Reynolds next year. Plus they get 5-star 2011 commit Trey Metoyer from continuation school and they also have a commit from 4-star 2012 WR commit Durron Neal.
That's five talented WRs to compete for balls with in Norman, whereas the road to the field looks a lot smoother in Columbia.
1. Close to Home
5 of 5If you've followed Green-Beckham's recruitment, then you know that proximity to his Springfield, MO home is a key element here. He just doesn't want to leave too far from home.
Oklahoma is not overly distant from Green-Beckham's hometown, but Missouri is closer. Springfield to Columbia is a three hour drive while the drive to Norman is five hours.
So each school is pretty close to home, the chance to stay in-state and be even closer speaks well for Mizzou.
