College Football Coaching Hot Seat: Which Coach Is Likely To Be Fired Next?

William PenfieldNov 13, 2011

It is that time of year again. The time when the coaches' seats are hotter than ever.

With the season nearing an end, athletic directors can begin to evaluate the season of their football programs, and that means bad news for many of the coaches in the game today.

Justified or not, a handful of college coaches are about to lose their jobs in the coming weeks.

No. 5 Rick Neuheisel

1 of 5

In three seasons at UCLA, Rick Neuheisel has never finished higher than eighth in the Pac-12 conference.

With another disappointing season in 2011, it looked like he could be on his way out in Los Angeles but his job may be saved due to poor play by other teams.

Arizona State's loss last night to Washington State means that the Bruins control their own destiny and could play in the Pac-12 Championship Game if they win out.

If the Bruins do in fact play for the Pac-12 Championship, Neuheisel could keep his job but he should be on his way out if they fail to reach the championship game.

No. 4 Mike Riley

2 of 5

Mike Riley has been at Oregon State since 2003, but his time could be running out after a disappointing 2-7 start to the season for the Beavers.

He is 5-1 in bowl games during his second stint with the Beavers but sports are a "what have you done for me lately?" type deal and the 2-7 start does not help his case.

If the Beavers can win a couple games down the stretch Riley's job could be safe, otherwise he could be printing out some resumes in the offseason.

No. 3 Paul Wulff

3 of 5

A win over Arizona State last night will certainly help Paul Wulff's case to keep his job, but it has still be an overall disappointment at Washington State this season.

Since he took the job he is 9-38 overall and 4-30 in the Pac-12.

To be honest, it is surprising that he has kept his job as long as he has since this is the first season he has won more than two games.

Wulff should be on his way out of Washington State at the end of the season.

No. 2 Frank Spaziani

4 of 5

Frank Spaziani was fairly successful in his first two seasons at the helm of Boston College, but this year has taken a turn for the worst.

The Eagles are one of the worst teams in the ACC with a record of 2-7 and 1-5 in the conference.

A bowl game is not in the future for the Eagles and the Boston College head coaching job could not be in the future for Spaziani.

His past success could help him keep his job, but the job he has done this season has been horrendous.

No. 1 Turner Gill

5 of 5

Turner Gill's seat is the hottest of hot right now in Kansas after blowing a lead against Baylor on Saturday.

In his near two years at the helm of the Jayhawks, Gill has only won a single Big 12 conference game and has yet to win one this season.

The Jayhawks currently sit at 2-7 with its only two wins coming against McNeese State and Northern Illinois.

Gill already has one foot out the door and could be fired before seasons end with a terrible showing at Texas A&M next Saturday.
