Urban Meyer Penn State Rumors: Why Penn State Must Sign Coach
Since the firing of Joe Paterno, from a strictly football standpoint, talk has been surfacing about signing Urban Meyer as the new head coach at Penn State. While considering Paterno's legacy football-wise in State College and the scandal itself, it may not be the easiest job to step into, but Meyer would be a step in the right direction for the university.
The former head coach at Florida has done everything a that man with a current job should do regarding the rumors: He has said he has no plans to leave ESPN, and despite earlier reports he would be part of the company's broadcast team for the Penn State vs Nebraska game, it has since been reported he will not be in attendance today.
Meyer should still be at the top of Penn State's list on their "national search" to find their new head football coach. Not only does the current ESPN analyst have a 102-23 career record as a head coach, but he is one of the most well liked and respected members of the college football community.
He would provide a new face to the football program and would likely be encouraged to bring in his own staff, leading to the departure of the leftover staff members from Paterno's time.
Meyer had great success taking a decent football team down in Florida to a top contender during his career there, and he would provide Penn State with a hopeful outlook for their program's future.
