Penn State Scandal: Predictions on Who Should Be Named President, Coach and AD
Joe Paterno, Graham Spanier and Tim Curley have all been fired from their former positions at Penn State University.
While this ongoing child sex abuse scandal continues to rock Penn State, the university also faces the challenge of eventually replacing their school president, football coach and athletic director. In fact, don't be surprised to see more members related to this scandal lose their jobs within a short time period as well.
So who is in line to take over these new positions?
Let's break it down and make some predictions on who the new president, coach and AD should be at Penn State.
Right here, right now.
President
1 of 3This position, once held by Graham Spanier, is a complete "unknown" going forward.
Right now, with everything going on, it would be hard to believe that this position is even being seriously discussed right now.
But did anyone else see how well John Surma, who is the vice chair on the Penn State board of trustees, answered some of those questions fired at him when he made the announcement about Paterno being fired?
There were some questions thrown his way that made everyone shake their head, but Surma did not seem fazed, and answered the ones he could, and simply dismissed the ones he couldn't.
Who knows how qualified he is to become the university president, but from what he showed the other night in handling the situation, he would certainly be a top candidate if I had to choose one.
Coach
2 of 3This has been a rumor all along, that Urban Meyer would become the next coach at Penn State when Joe Pa called it quits.
Well he didn't call it quits, but he is gone, and that means the search is on.
Right now, Meyer said that he is not interested and he is content doing TV work with ESPN. But that will change sooner rather than later.
Meyer is the right man for this job, and if this program has any chance to regain respectability at any point, they are going to need to land the right man for this job.
That man is Urban Meyer.
Athletic Director
3 of 3In many instances, the athletic director is someone who has worked as a coach or somewhere in the athletic department and then moves up to that position.
Penn State's top sport has always been football, and there is certainly no internal athletic director there.
The same can be said for basketball now that Ed DeChellis has left for the Navy job.
So it looks like the athletic director is either going to have to come from outside the university, or be someone who the public is not familiar with.
Personally, I think it's a no-brainer that the new AD has to come from outside the program. In fact, it may be in the unviersity's best interest to wipe out everyone associated with this football program and start all over.
