Bowl Predictions 2012: Week 11 Matchups That Could Shake Up the BCS Standings
Week 10 of the college football season probably shook up the rankings more than any other week this year. There were quite a few upsets at the bottom of the polls and with the loss to Alabama it leaves the national championship race wide open.
This is what makes college football so fun.
Here are the games of Week 11 that could turn the BCS Standings upside down.
Virginia Tech vs. Georgia Tech
Believe it or not, but there is a huge game tonight that features two ranked opponents and will probably determine who comes out of the Coastal Division in the ACC. This game should fly by as far as time is concerned because both teams love to run the football and are pretty good at it.
If the Hokies win, they should continue to climb up the rankings quietly.
If the Yellow Jackets win, that would make two consecutive quality wins and they'd become the favorite to play Clemson in the ACC Championship Game.
Nebraska vs. Penn State
Penn State just can't stay out of the news, can it? But this time it actually has to do with football.
This is another game that features two ranked teams going at it. This contest will probably be sloppy offensively because Nebraska has a quarterback who's terrible at throwing and the Nittany Lions struggle to find the end zone.
This game will not only impact the BCS standings but also play a big part in who wins the Big Ten as both teams are still in the hunt for that title.
Oregon vs. Stanford
Of course, this is the game of the week as both teams are ranked inside the Top 10. This game will also have a huge impact in who wins the Pac-12 as the winner will become the favorite for that conference.
We saw a defensive battle last week with Alabama and LSU, but this game should be the complete opposite. Both teams have more than enough weapons on offense and both defenses play a "bend but don't break" style.
The loser will take suffer a huge set back while the winner will stay in the national championship hunt. (Yes, that includes the Ducks as well. With a little help they could have an argument.)
Auburn vs. Georgia
I personally don't understand how the Tigers are still ranked after a very inconsistent season. The Georgia Bulldogs haven't received much love all season after starting the year 0-2, but since then they have won seven straight. You could say they haven't beaten anybody of high quality, but they have played some impressive football on both sides of the ball lately. If Auburn loses it will fall out of the BCS rankings probably for good and Georgia will continue to slide up the ladder.
You can call me crazy, but Georgia could give LSU a run for its money in the SEC Championship Game if it continues playing this well—especially with the home-field advantage.
