Bowl Predictions 2012: Meltdown Scenario That Could Flip BCS Upside Down

With just four weeks left in the regular season, the race to New Orleans is really starting to heat up, and right now both No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Oklahoma State look like they’re on a crash course to meet in the national championship game.

There’s still a lot of football left to be played and there a ton of different combinations for the national championship game that are still possible.

As always, the BCS haters are hoping that a supposed “Doomsday Scenario” actually plays out and end-of-the-season chaos ensues.

Besides the wild 2007 season, we have yet to really see a crazy scenario that really shakes up the final BCS standings, but the possibility always exists and this season is no different.

Let’s say for instance, somehow this scenario plays out:

No. 1 LSU loses to No. 8 Arkansas.

No. 2 Oklahoma State loses to No. 6 Oklahoma.

No. 3 Alabama loses to No. 20 Auburn.

No. 4 Stanford Loses to No. 7 Oregon.

And No. 5 Boise State finishes undefeated.

It sounds far-fetched right now, but it may not actually be all that improbable.

That scenario would mean that none of the four current top-ranked teams in the country would win a conference championship (Arkansas would win the SEC West, Oklahoma would win the Big 12 and Oregon would win the Pac-12 North).

You would have a one-loss Oregon team, a one-loss Oklahoma team and a one-loss Arkansas team that would all have wins over top-five opponents on their resumes, and then you would have an undefeated Boise State team that would have a win over just one ranked team on its resume.

Have fun trying to figure that out!

Yes, that’s the ultimate BCS doomsday scenario right there, and while it’s certainly not likely to all play out like that, at least it just gave all of you BCS haters something to hope for.
