College Football Picks Week 11: Against-the-Spread Series Trends Worth Knowing
The 2011 college football season moves deeper into conference play and allows sports bettors to place more weight on series trends involving two particular teams.
Betting trends are a big part of handicapping any sport, especially when the opponents are familiar with each other.
Let's take a closer look at six against-the-spread trends that you'll want to know heading into Week 11.
Virginia Tech (-1) at Georgia Tech
1 of 6Both teams have spent some time as the betting favorite in this week's market, but the Virginia Tech Hokies have settled into the role after two days of wagering.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets hold a clear edge if the line closes at its current level, with the underdog coming away with the cash in five consecutive meetings.
Oklahoma State (-17) at Texas Tech
2 of 6The Oklahoma State Cowboys are No. 2 in the BCS standings and likely have a clear path to the 2012 BCS Championship Game if they win out.
That provides pressure, the kind that this program has never dealt with before.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders have fallen flat in two consecutive games since tallying a 41-38 upset win over the Oklahoma Sooners as 29-point road underdogs on Oct. 22.
Sports bettors are interested in knowing that the Cowboys are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road trips to take on the Red Raiders.
Michigan State (-3) at Iowa
3 of 6The Michigan State Spartans likely had this week's Big Ten Conference affair with the Iowa Hawkeyes circled on their schedules, after suffering a 37-6 blowout loss as 6.5-point road underdogs last year.
Both teams have beaten the Michigan Wolverines this year, with the Hawkeyes coming away with a 24-16 win as 3.5-point home underdogs just last week.
Bettors will find that the Spartans are 0-5 ATS in their last five trips to Iowa City.
Miami at Florida State (-9.5)
4 of 6The Florida State Seminoles and Miami Hurricanes are often battling for the same recruits from the Sunshine State, making this rivalry important every year.
Bettors will always find value in playing the team getting points in that particular situation.
The underdog is 11-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings.
Auburn at Georgia (-13)
5 of 6The home team has covered four straight games in the series between the Auburn Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs, but it's important to note that none of those instances came with a double-digit spread.
In fact, the last time it occurred, the Bulldogs walked away with a 37-15 win as 11.5-point road underdogs on Nov. 11, 2006.
Oregon at Stanford (-3.5)
6 of 6The Stanford Cardinal are the only team entering with a perfect ATS record in Week 11, covering all nine of their contests thus far.
That could definitely change when facing the Oregon Ducks, coming in with a 7-2 ATS record in the last nine meetings between these Pac-12 Conference rivals.
From a betting perspective, it's important to point out that the Cardinal are favored over the Ducks for the first time since 2004.
