BCS Standings Week 11: Complete Standings, Twitter Reaction and More

Zachary D. RymerNov 6, 2011

There will not be a new No. 1 when the BCS standings for Week 11 are revealed later on this evening.

LSU came into the weekend as the No. 1 team in the country, and the Tigers proved they deserve the top spot by beating No. 2 Alabama on the road.

No doubt you heard something about that game.

While LSU may not be budging from No. 1, there is going to be plenty of shake-up in the rankings immediately below the top spot.

The most pressing concern is where Alabama will end up, and it's entirely possible that the Crimson Tide will be ranked ahead of undefeated Boise State when the rankings are refreshed.

Regardless, be sure to check back here when the rankings are released (8:15 p.m. ET), and then get ready for some serious discussion. When it comes to the BCS, there are always plenty of things to talk about.

Update: Sunday at 9:05 p.m. ET

Now that we have the BCS standings (below), it's time for some serious talky-talky about them.

The primary point of contention at the moment is not exactly a surprise. The new rankings have Alabama at No. 3 ahead of Stanford and Boise State, both of whom are undefeated. That has a lot of people feeling pretty miffed.

For a taste of the mayhem, we must head to Twitter.

Let's start with the general reaction to Alabama's No. 3 ranking. Bleacher Report's Andrew Kulha's reaction is fairly typical:

For the record, he means No. 3. He said so in a later tweet.

"Too high" is indeed a good way of putting it. By that same token, Stanford and Boise State are clearly too low, which could potentially make a huge difference in the long run.

This being said, Boise State supporters only have so much reason to complain. Brad Edwards, ESPN's BCS expert, pointed out that the BCS computers are not to blame for Boise State being No. 5. The humans are.

Here's Edwards' point, via Jon Solomon of The Birmingham News:

Stanford supporters can also chill out. The Cardinal may be behind Alabama now, but Ted Miller, who authors ESPN's Pac-12 blog, points out that this may not be the case for long:

In case you're wondering, Stanford plays No.7 Oregon at home on Saturday. A win over the Ducks would give Stanford a huge boost in the national title picture, and would certainly push it over Alabama.

But for now, the fans don't want to hear it. Both Stanford and Boise State fans are pretty annoyed. Below are some typical fan tweets:

It's all about respect, my friends, and some schools just can't get none. There are a lot of reasons for this, but it's convenient for people to just blame the BCS.

Like so:

Amen, brother. Amen.

Update: Sunday at 8:32 p.m. ET

Update: Sunday at 7:05 p.m. ET

The Week 11 rankings aren't going to hit for another hour or so, but we do have the Harris Poll and the USA Today Coaches' Poll for Week 11.

Perhaps the most interesting part is that Alabama is No. 4 in both polls, one spot ahead of the undefeated Boise State Broncos. That's a pretty good indication that Alabama is going to be No. 4 in the new BCS rankings as well.

This should sit well with Alabama fans and the various SEC homers out there, but don't be surprised when Boise State supporters cry foul. With Alabama losing, Boise State could have gained ground in the chase for a spot in the BCS National Championship Game. Instead, Boise State seems poised to stay right where it's at in the chase.

Stay tuned for the rankings. Once again, they drop at 8:15 p.m. ET.
