National Signing Day 2012: The Top 5 Recruits Most Likely to Wait to Commit

Edwin WeathersbyNov 6, 2011

A trendy thing to do in recruiting is wait to announce your decision on National Signing Day. You hold a press conference with friends and family and either do the hat tricks or some type of prop to announce where you're signing.

I've got five recruits whom I think will likely wait to NSD 2012 to announce. All of them may not do the hats or props, but the first Wednesday in February is likely when they'll announce.

Here they are.

5. Josh Garnett, OL

1 of 5

Josh Garnett is the top OG prospect in the country. Washington, Nebraska, Miami, Oregon, USC and Notre Dame have all been mentioned among many more.

He wants to take all five of his trips to schools out of his home state of Washington, and a decision likely won't come until very late, say NSD late.

4. Stefon Diggs, WR

2 of 5

Diggs lists a top 11 that has Auburn, Florida, Maryland, Miami, Cal and Virginia Tech in it, among others. He seems to be having fun with the process and has been pretty sly about naming a leader.

He's going to more than likely take his five allotted trips, and I think is an early candidate to have a prop-announcement on NSD.

3. Eddie Goldman, DT

3 of 5

Florida State, Alabama, Cal, Auburn, Maryland, Clemson and Miami are the top seven schools for perhaps the nation's best DT prospect.

Almost everyone around him (and the consensus in the recruiting industry) makes it seem like his recruitment won't end until NSD.

2. Kwon Alexander, LB

4 of 5

I initially thought Alexander may be planning to announce at an All-Star game, but he recently told Scout.com that he is likely to wait until NSD.

Alexander has a top five of Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, LSU and Oregon. He'll take his trips to each school and feel everyone out.

Don't expect him to know who he's feeling the most until signing day, however

1. Dorial Green-Beckham, WR

5 of 5

Green-Beckham will likely wait until after his senior year to take his visits, which naturally will push his decision date back.

Couple that with the fact that his spotlight will get hotter when recruiting comes back into focus in January (i.e., the pressure will mount) and DGB likely will need more time to think. Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Auburn are all running.

There is a chance that he will wait until after signing day to make his commitment, similar to what last year's No.1 overall recruit, Jadeveon Clowney, did.
