BCS Rankings: 5 Teams That Could Be Undefeated by Season's End
It's the college football season's final quarter, and there are still five undefeated teams making noise in the BCS.
Four of these five "undefeateds" are in the BCS top five, with a real shot at the BCS title.
The real question however is, Who is most likely to remain undefeated after the season ends?
A lot of factors weigh in to navigating a tough slate of college games undefeated. They range from when you play teams, your team's overall health, to the talent and depth of your own team.
It's easier, for instance, to sneak past a team who may be overlooking you early in the season, than to win when the pressure of the BCS is weighing over your head.
For these five, this is the order of likelihood that the teams go undefeated.
The No. 5 team has the hardest road, while I believe the No 1 team has the easiest shot at ending the season with zero losses on their ledger.
5. OK State
1 of 5OK State is 9-0, but are the least likely team to go undefeated.
The Cowboys survived their game with K-State this weekend, winning a wild 52-45 affair in which the Wildcats had the ball first-and-goal with a shot to tie the game.
The Cowboys have two tough road games: at Texas Tech and at Iowa State. If the Cowboys survive those two games, they do get to play their final game at home, and all they have to do is beat Oklahoma.
4. Stanford
2 of 5Stanford has a good opportunity at the undefeated season.
The Cardinal do, however, face Oregon and Notre Dame in their final three games.
However, both of those games are home games for Stanford.
In fact, their other game, "The Game" against Cal, is a home game as well.
3. LSU
3 of 5LSU has the toughest schedule, but they are arguably the most talented team in America.
Also, the Tigers boast the nation's top defensive unit, and defense rarely goes into a slump.
Their ability to defend the run and the pass will keep them in every game they play the rest of the season.
Although they face stiff competition, they ought to be able to navigate the slate to a 13-0 record and an SEC championship.
2. Houston
4 of 5Houston is 9-0, and in command of C-USA.
Although the Cougars go on the road twice to play Tulsa and Tulane, their biggest challenge may be a home game against SMU.
The Mustangs have already knocked off TCU this season, and have nothing to lose when they come in to play Houston.
Since playing a seven-point game against UTEP, the Cougars have won their last four games, all by at least 39 points.
1. Boise State
5 of 5This is the obvious team that is most likely to be undefeated by season's end.
The Broncs face games against TCU, San Diego State, Wyoming and New Mexico.
TCU is 4-0 in conference play, and 7-2 overall, will pose the biggest challenge to Boise.
The TCU record is however, misleading. When they have stepped up in competition, the Frogs have lost to SMU and Baylor.
Should Boise get past TCU, it's clear sailing to the undefeated season.
