BCS Rankings: The Best and Worst Case Scenario for Every BCS Top 25 Team

Randy ChambersNov 3, 2011

With just a few weeks left in the season teams are making their final push to reach a BCS Bowl game. Some teams have it more difficult than others with a tough schedule or injuries to key players. However, this is the time of year where you either show you're a contender or pretender.

1. LSU Tigers:

Best case: Win the National Championship with an undefeated record

Worst case: Not reach a BCS Bowl game by losing two games

LSU will more than likely either reach the National Championship or Sugar Bowl. But there is a chance they could fall out of the BCS all together if they lose to Alabama and Arkansas at the end of the year.

2. Alabama Crimson Tide:

Best case: Win the National Championship with an undefeated record

Worst case: Not reach a BCS Bowl game by losing two games

Much like LSU, Alabama will probably either go undefeated or reach the Sugar Bowl. But with a rivalry game against Auburn at the end of the year, if Alabama slips they could be in trouble.

3. Oklahoma State Cowboys:

Best case: Undefeated record and reach the National Championship

Worst case: Fall out of the BCS race

If Oklahoma State runs the table they'll be in the National Championship, but there is a chance they could fall out of the BCS race all together, especially with games against Oklahoma and Kansas State left.

4. Stanford Cardinal:

Best case: Reach the National Championship

Worst case: Lose to Oregon and not win the Pac-12

Stanford will likely still make a BCS Bowl game but a loss to Oregon in two weeks will remove any chance of them making the National Championship.

5. Boise State Broncos:

Best case: Reach the National Championship

Worst case: Reach a BCS Bowl game

I don't think there's any chance of Boise State losing a game this season. They will more than likely reach the Sugar Bowl and play the loser of Alabama-LSU.

6. Oklahoma Sooners:

Best case: Reach the National Championship

Worst case: Fall out of the BCS race

If Oklahoma runs the table they'll make the National Championship, but if they end up with two or more losses, they won't even make a BCS Bowl.

7. Arkansas Razorbacks:

Best case: Sugar Bowl

Worst case: Chic-Fil-A Bowl

8. Oregon Ducks:

Best case: Pac-12 Championship and BCS Bowl

Worst case: BCS Bowl game without Pac-12 Championship

9. South Carolina Gamecocks:

Best case: SEC Championship and BCS Bowl Game

Worst case: Outback Bowl

10. Nebraska Cornhuskers:

Best case: BCS Bowl Game and Big Ten Title

Worst case: Outback Bowl

Who would have thought Nebraska was going to become the favorite for the Big Ten title? After two losses by Wisconsin, they are.

11. Clemson Tigers:

Best case: ACC Title and BCS Bowl

Worst case: Chick-Fil-A Bowl

12. Virginia Tech Hokies:

Best case: ACC Title and BCS Bowl

Worst case: Chick-Fil-A Bowl

13. Houston Cougars:

Best case: Autozone Liberty Bowl

Worst case: Autozone Liberty Bowl

14. Kansas State Wildcats:

Best case: Big 12 Title and BCS Bowl

Worst case: Insight Bowl

15. Michigan Wolverines:

Best case: Big Ten Title and BCS Bowl

Worst case: Gator Bowl

The game against Nebraska in a couple of weeks will determine where Michigan ends up.

16. Penn State Nittany Lions:

Best case: Big Ten title and BCS Bowl game

Worst case: Outback Bowl

17. Michigan State Spartans:

Best case: Big Ten Title and BCS Bowl

Worst case: Outback Bowl

18. Georgia Bulldogs:

Best case: SEC Title and BCS Bowl

Worst case: Outback Bowl

19. Arizona State Sun Devils:

Best case: Pac-12 Title and BCS Bowl

Worst case: Valero Alamo Bowl

Arizona State is a darkhorse to win the Pac-12 and with a good defense they will have a shot.

20. Wisconsin Badgers:

Best case: Rose Bowl

Worst case: Gator Bowl

It's amazing how just a couple of weeks ago Wisconsin was a favorite to win the National Championship. Now they will be lucky to reach a BCS Bowl.

21. Texas Longhorns:

Best case: Insight Bowl

Worst case: Valero Alamo Bowl

22. Auburn Tigers:

Best case: Chick-fil-A Bowl

Worst case: Music City Bowl

23. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets:

Best case: ACC Title and BCS Bowl Game

Worst case: Hyundai Sun Bowl

24. West Virginia Mountaineers:

Best case: Big East Title and BCS Bowl

Worst case: Belk Bowl

25. Southern Miss Golden Eagles:

Best case: Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl

Worst case: Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl
