Army vs. Air Force: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and BCS Impact

Michael DixonNov 1, 2011

Saturday will bring us the second of three games for the Commander in Chief's Trophy, when the Army Black Knights travel west to take on the Air Force Falcons.

Air Force has already defeated Navy this season. A win would guarantee them the trophy. Army has yet to play either service academy.

Where: Falcon Stadium. Colorado Springs, Colo.

When: Saturday, November 5 at 3:30 p.m. EDT

Watch: CBS

Listen: WABC 77 in New York. KVOR 740 in Colorado Springs in Colorado Springs. Streamed at Game Central.

Betting Line

Air Force (-15) according to betonline. This is a big number, especially considering that Air Force hardly ever passes the ball. Still, I like them to win and cover here. The spread will be close but in Colorado, I like their chances.

Key Storyline

Can Air Force clinch a sweep of both Navy and Army and win the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy? Army beat Navy in an overtime thriller in October and are heavily favored in this game.

Conversely, if Army wins, the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy will be on the line when they play Navy at the end of the year.

Who Might Not Play for Army

Army DB Antuan Aaron (back), G Joe Bailey (knee), and DE Jarrett Mackey (knee) are out for the season.

Army QB Trent Steelman (ankle) is doubtful.

Army LS Parker Whitten (leg), RB Terry Baggett (leg) and LB Steven Erzinger (hamstring) are questionable.

Who Might Not Play for Air Force

Air Force OL Michael Hester (ankle), RB Darius Jones (foot), WR Drew Coleman (illness), and DL Harry Kehs are out indefinitely.

Air Force LB Ken Lamendola (hamstring), and DL Zach Payne (knee) are questionable.

Air Force QB Tim Jefferson Jr. (nose) is probable.

BCS/Top 25 Implications

There are none here. Neither team is good enough to get anywhere near the Top 25. This one is all about the pride that all three service academies play for every year when they play each other.

What They're Saying

CBS Sports' Chip Patterson identified Air Force quarterback Tim Jefferson as the games most important player.

"

Health of Air Force starting quarterback Tim Jefferson. Jefferson left the Falcon's 42-0 victory over New Mexico with a reported injury to his nose. He was back on the practice field on Monday, but head coach Troy Calhoun did not offer any official comment on his status for Army...I expect senior running back Asher Clark to step up with an increased workload and production in the rivalry game.

"

Army Player to Watch

Trent Steelman, both as a passer and rusher. He's the second leading rusher on the team and leads them with 11 rushing touchdowns. Without a big game from him, they have no chance. That makes things tough for Army, as Steelman is listed as doubtful.

Air Force Player to Watch

I agree with Patterson's assessment. Asher Clark will be the key to this game. The team with the better running attack will win.

Key Matchup

Clark vs. the Army defense. Army's only chance in this game is to keep Clark and possibly Jefferson in check. The Falcons will win a shootout, so the Black Knights must contain the rushing attack.

On the Hot Seat

It's hard to see anyone really being on the hot seat here. This game is more about pride than anything else.

If Air Force loses, then some of their stronger veteran players will have so answering to do, as they should clearly win this one.

Prediction

I like the Air Force attack here a lot more than Army's. They will be far more consistent and take this one at home.

Air Force 30, Army 10
