BCS Rankings: Predicting LSU vs. Alabama and Week 10's Best Games

Matt ShetlerOct 30, 2011

The highly anticipated 10th week of the college football season is only a matter of days away and it promises to be a great one for the college football fan.

Not only does Week 10 feature the must see matchup between Alabama and LSU but there's a ton of good games to watch.

Let's take a look at who will win the Top 10 matchups of Week 10.

Notre Dame at Wake Forest

1 of 10

The Irish are coming off a win against Navy while the Demon Deacons were blown out by North Carolina.

Wake Forest has surprised some teams along the way, but they won't be sneaking up on Notre Dame. The Irish shouldn't have a problem moving the ball offensively and will come out on top in this one.

Prediction: Notre Dame 31 Wake Forest 20

Purdue at No. 19 Wisconsin

2 of 10

The Badgers are coming off back-to-back heartbreakers that have eliminated them from any thoughts of playing for a championship, but can still win the Big Ten Conference and find their way into the Rose Bowl.

Purdue has found a way to compete, but has had a struggle closing teams out.

The Boilermakers will hang tough for a bit, but this is an opportunity for Russell Wilson and Wisconsin to get back on track and get back on a roll before meeting Penn State on Nov. 26

Prediction: Wisconsin 34 Purdue 20

Missouri at Baylor

3 of 10

This promises to be an exciting matchup between two playmaking quarterbacks in Missouri's James Franklin and Baylor's Robert Griffin III.

The Tigers are coming off of an impressive win against Texas A&M while Baylor had dropped two straight against a pair of good teams in the Aggies and Oklahoma State.

Both quarterbacks will be able to make plays in this one, but the difference will be Missouri running back Henry Josey, who's leading the Big 12 Conference in rushing.

Missouri gets one on the road.

Prediction: Missouri 27 Baylor 24

No. 13 Michigan at Iowa

4 of 10

The Wolverines rebounded on Saturday to take care of Purdue after their only loss of the season the previous weekend.

The Hawkeyes, on the other hand, dropped a game to Minnesota that they never should have lost and it cost them ground in the Big Ten Legends Division.

This is a game that Iowa can win playing at home, but they didn't look good on Saturday so the advantage goes with Denard Robinson and Michigan.

Prediction: Michigan 27 Iowa 17

Texas Tech at Texas

5 of 10

Just a week after Texas Tech upset Oklahoma, they were blown out by Iowa State, who came in with the worst offense in the Big 12 Conference.

The Longhorns got back in the win column on Saturday by shutting out Kansas, after suffering back-to-back losses against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

Unlike on Saturday, the Red Raiders will show up for this one and it should be a close game, but we're going with the Longhorns at home.

Prediction: Texas 27 Texas Tech 24

Texas A&M at No.7 Oklahoma

6 of 10

The Big 12 Conference is littered with great quarterbacks and two of their best go head-to-head when Ryan Tannehill and Landry Jones square off.

The Sooners made a statement against Kansas State that they aren't dead just yet, while the Aggies showed against Missouri that you never really know which Texas A&M team will show up from week-to-week.

Texas A&M certainly has the talent to beat Oklahoma, but the Achilles Heel of the Aggies has been their defense and Oklahoma is averaging 396.6 yards per game in the air, so Jones will have a big day.

Plus Oklahoma isn't going to lose twice at home in the same season.

Prediction: Oklahoma 41 Texas A&M 24

No. 6 Oregon at Washington

7 of 10

The Ducks have been red hot and look to continue that steak, and hold out hope to sneak into the BCS Championship Game, when they head into Husky Stadium to take on Washington in Pac-12 action.

This one will feature a matchup of great running backs in Washington's Chris Polk and Oregon's LaMichael James.

Washington is a quiet six-win team and Husky Stadium is a tough one to play in, so Washington has a chance to keep it close, but they've faced two good teams this season in Nebraska and Stanford and were blown out by both.

I look for the Ducks to have similar success.

Prediction: Oregon 45 Washington 24

No. 10 South Carolina at No. 8 Arkansas

8 of 10

This promises to be a good one and on any other weekend may be the game of the week.

Eventually, the Gamecocks are going to feel the loss of Marcus Lattimore, and even though they've won without him to this point, this week could be different.

Arkansas is fresh off a scare at Vanderbilt, but should be ready from the opening whistle this week.

One thing the Gamecocks will be able to do is pressure Razorbacks quarterback Tyler Wilson and that should keep the game close.

But in the end, the Razorbacks will have enough to pull this one out at home.

Prediction: Arkansas 24 South Carolina 17

No. 17 Kansas State at No. 3 Oklahoma State

9 of 10

Kansas State got their toughest test of the season on Saturday and were blown out by Oklahoma. It doesn't get any easier this week when they head on the road to take on Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys control their own destiny and must be careful not to look too far ahead or they will suffer a let down.

For the Wildcats to win, their special teams and defense must make plays and possibly score a touchdown or two. Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden is prone to a mistake or two so he may give them that opportunity.

In the end, though, the Cowboys are too good of a football team and have too many weapons.

Prediction: Oklahoma State 38 Kansas State 24

No. 1 LSU at No. 2 Alabama

10 of 10

Now for the big one.

This game has everything a fan could want.

Two great coaches in Nick Saban and Les Miles. Two great defenses. Both teams are efficient offensively and like to pound the football.

For the Crimson Tide to win, they must continue to play great defensively and running back Trent Richardson must have a huge game. This could be his Heisman Trophy moment with a big enough game.

Saban must also keep quarterback A.J. McCarron out of situations where he can make mistakes. McCarron has been very good to this point of the season, but this will be his toughest test to date.

For the Tigers to win, it's pretty much the same game plan. Play defense, run the football and make big plays when the opportunity presents itself.

The LSU special teams could be the deciding factor in this one as they tend to make big plays in big games. They have a huge advantage here, especially in a field position game.

One other deciding factor is Miles. You know the Mad Hatter has something up his sleeve for Alabama.

We will just have to let it all play out on Saturday.

Prediction: I wanted to go with LSU, but will lean towards the Crimson Tide simply because the game is at home. Alabama 20 LSU 17.
