BCS Rankings: 5 Fallen BCS Hopefuls Ready to Sleep with the Fish

Richard LangfordOct 30, 2011

The last two weeks have shattered a lot of BCS dreams for universities. Undefeated teams have been falling by the wayside.

The result has been a wildly altered BCS picture and teams scrambling to readjust their goals for the season.

While some of these one loss teams are still in the mix for a BCS game and possibly even a shot at the National Championship, others are not. Like these next five teams.

Various things sit in the way of these teams, but one thing is true with all of them, they simply aren't good enough to make it.

The weaknesses of these teams have been exposed. Their holes were too big to be conquered. While the next five schools all will still likely end up playing in bigger bowl games, those bowl games are not going to have the letters "BCS" attached to them.

Kansas State

1 of 5

Kansas State had climbed all the way up to No. 8 in the BCS standings. That put them one spot ahead of Oklahoma. I think Oklahoma was offended.

The Sooners exposed the Wildcats by a score of 59-17. Things won't get any easier for Kansas State either. They face Oklahoma State next week, and then Texas A&M and Texas the following week.

I don't think they'll still be in the top 25 after that stretch of games.

Clemson

2 of 5

Clemson rolled into their game with the triple option Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets undefeated. They were undefeated on a string of clutch and solid performances.

That string of clutch and solid performances came to an end.

Clemson couldn't stop Georgia Tech from running the ball, and they couldn't get their passing game going. This led to them being exposed in a big way.

Clemson will take a big hit in the polls and they will have a hard time recovering as they don't have another ranked opponent on their schedule.

Wisconsin

3 of 5

Two weeks ago, I thought Wisconsin was going to go undefeated and possibly have a chance to play for the championship.

Two weeks and two losses later, I can't believe I ever held onto such a foolish notion.

The Badgers defense has been getting abused and they have been abused by mediocre offenses in Michigan State and Ohio State.

Wisconsin's BCS hopes are done and they probably won't even win the Big Ten.

Michigan State

4 of 5

With their big upset win over Wisconsin, the Spartans had put themselves back in BCS contention.

They promptly took themselves out of contention this week. Michigan State was easily handled by Nebraska and they looked horrible in the process.

This is a flawed team with big holes on offense. They are a fringe top 25 team and certainly not a BCS caliber team.

Texas A&M

5 of 5

After starting 2-2, Texas A&M had climbed back to No. 16 with three straight wins.

Along with that winning streak came hopes that they could win out and sneak back into BCS contention.

Those hopes have been slaughtered. Texas A&M picked up their third loss of the season. And it was their third loss where they allowed a team to come from behind.

The Aggies defense has a crippling propensity to stop playing in the fourth quarter, and it has cost this team any chance at the BCS.
