Terrell Owens: Controversial WR Should Find a Home with Tennessee Titans

Adam WellsOct 26, 2011

The spectacle of Terrell Owens working out with no teams in attendance is being overblown. The event to show Owens' stabilized knee after surgery was shown on national television, so there was no need for anyone to send a representative to see the wide receiver. And now that we have seen what he can do, it would make sense for the Tennessee Titans to give him a call.

The Titans looked like a contender in the AFC South earlier this season. They were 3-1, Matt Hasselbeck looked like his old self, the defense was strong and they were doing all of this with star running back Chris Johnson having the worst season of his career. Lest we forget, they also lost wide receiver Kenny Britt for the season with a torn ACL.

Three weeks later, the Titans look like they have just thrown in the towel. They have lost their last two games by a combined score of 79-24. They are in desperate need of any help that they can get.

Owens' agent Drew Rosenhaus is doing his best job of selling anyone and everyone that he can on his receiver.

"I definitely feel there are some teams out there that are interested," he told ESPN.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus said Wednesday in an interview with ESPN Radio's Mike and Mike in the Morning that no teams have called as of Wednesday morning, but he's sure NFL teams were watching Owens' workout on TV.

"Just because they weren't there doesn't mean they weren't interested," he said. "I can guarantee that all 32 teams were interested."

Beyond that, there was speculation from John Glennon of The Tennessean that the Titans struggling passing game needs Owens and that he would be a great fit for this team.

"The one-sided defeat (to Houston last week) was the kind that will surely have fans clamoring for the Titans to take a long look at free agent Terrell Owens’ workout on Tuesday, especially considering that wide receiver Damian Williams missed a large chunk of the game with headaches after taking a hard fall."

Maybe the Titans were overachieving the first four weeks of the season and they are closer to being the team that we have seen in their last two games. But as bad as they have looked, they are still a half-game behind the Texans in the division.

Considering the Texans' recent history and past failures, what's to stop them from another collapse that costs them a playoff spot?

The Titans have a chance in the AFC South this season, they just need to find a playmaker that can help them get back to being the team they were before the Pittsburgh game in Week 4.

Owens still has that difference-making ability at 37 years old. He had nine touchdowns and 72 receptions with the Bengals last season, so he is still in the upper-echelon of wideouts in the NFL. He just needs someone to give him a chance.

The Titans are a perfect fit for him, and he is not going to cost a lot of money because he is going to take a prorated contract to play the final nine weeks of the season. (There are 10 games left, but even if he were to sign with the team today, it's doubtful he would play this week.)
