Gennaro Gattuso (AC Milan Midfielder) is facing a serious problem which could threaten his world football career. The problem is diplopia or double vision in his left eye secondary to an inflammation of the facial nerve (VII Cranial Nerve).

The purpose of this article is to explain why Gattuso is unable to play world football. It will also talk about double vision and the involvement of the facial nerve.

The conversation about double vision is important in order to explain Gattuso's condition. It can also be said that a discussion of sports medicine can be good from time to time.

The problems for Gattuso started in the beginning of the 2011-2012 Serie A match between AC Milan and Lazio. While Gattuso had vision problems a few days before the match, he suffered from problems related to coordination.

Gattuso admitted to seeing Zlatan Ibrahimovic in four different positions during the first 20 minutes of the match. Gattuso went on to say that he was unable to see Sandro and crashed into Alessandro Nesta.

Gattuso had to leave the field after 20 minutes and concluded that his career was over. Gattuso has since been placed on a waiting list for neurosurgery in the United States courtesy of AC Milan.

It is expected that Gattuso may be out for a great amount of time during the 2011-2012 Serie A season. Gattuso responded by talking about the need to enjoy life since it is "horrible to not drive because of double vision."

Disclaimer: This information is meant only as a definition, cause, and treatment of double vision in the case of an athlete. It should not be used as medical advice.

Diplopia or Double Vision is a condition of the eyes that has multiple causes. The causes can be surgical, infection, muscles, nerve conditions (such as the Facial Nerve), and/or spontaneous.

The Facial Nerve (VII Cranial Nerve) is associated with the eye and can be one of the problems of double vision. The diagnosis can be made by blood tests, CT Scans, and/or MRIs.

The response to questions concerning vision are also helpful in the case of diagnosing double vision. The treatment of double vision is to treat the underlying cause which could include surgery.

Gattuso (at the present time) is wearing an eye patch which could minimize the effects of double vision.

We can only hope that Gattuso will be able to undergo surgery and be able to return to world football.
