Rodney Harrison Suggests Jim Schwartz Is a Dirty Coach!

James Van EttenOct 24, 2011

Rodney Harrison dropped a bomb on NBC last night, intimating that the perceived dirty play of the Detroit Lions defense is a direct reflection of their head coach, Jim Schwartz.

With all the accusations swirling today regarding Ndamukong Suh and Cliff Avril supposedly taunting the Atlanta Falcons and Matt Ryan in particular when the quarterback had his ankle stepped on by reserve tackle Will Svitek; the former New England Patriots safety has thrown a bucket of gasoline on the fire.

Harrison suggested a Tennessee Titan maliciously injured him back in his playing days, while members of the Titans' coaching staff stood nearby, smiling and laughing.

Wow, that takes a big set of clock-weights, and is a reckless presumption to extrapolate that forward to the play on the field Sunday. Is Rodney suggesting Jim Schwartz is John Kreese, leader of the Cobra Kai dojo?

Cliff Avril has already tweeted there is no truth to the allegation, but the bigger problem may be the referees' perception of the Lions' defense going forward.  You are already seeing questionable calls going against the Lions as their new identity has taken hold with the men in zebra-striped shirts.

Kyle Vanden Bosch was flagged for helmet-to-helmet contact with Matt Ryan yesterday when clearly the replay showed he put his helmet into the breastplate of the Falcons quarterback. It appears clear than the new personality of the defensive front will not give the Lions the benefit of the doubt.

Harrison has a history of ruffling feathers and he's probably succeeded again with this blast. Hopefully this character assassination fades away quickly, given Harrison's less than angelic career, but it bears watching.
