15 Premier League January Transfer Window Rumours

Allan JiangOct 24, 2011

We're a quarter way through the European season, and for some teams there is already an emphasis on the January transfer window.

This article doesn't contain out-of-the-question transfer rumours like Cristiano Ronaldo coming back to Manchester United.

More so, this article contains plausible transfer rumours which can happen.

Here are 15 Premier League January transfer window rumours.

Luka Modrić and Wesley Sneijder

1 of 15

According to Jamie Redknapp, missing out on Luka Modrić and Wesley Sneijder was the reason why Manchester United lost 6-1.

Interestingly, everyone was raving about Manchester United's midfield when they humiliated Arsenal 8-2 and easily beat Chelsea 3-1.

Midfield wasn't the weak link; it was the centre-back pairing of Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans.

So I say, there is no need to buy Modrić or Sneijder.

It will be all solved when Tom Cleverley is inserted back into the starting lineup.

Andrei Arshavin

2 of 15

According to Inside Futbol, Suleyman Kerimov-funded Anzhi Makhachkala, a.k.a the Manchester City of Russia, have prepared a bid to buy Andrei Arshavin.

Aside from the 8-2 thrashing against Manchester United, Arshavin has either been subbed on or off in every single Arsenal game he has played this season.

The Russian is 30 years old, and I say cut him loose for maximum profit.

If Chelsea can squeeze £13.2 million out of Anzhi for Yuri Zhirkov, then Arsenal must squeeze £20-25 million out of Arshavin.

Iker Muniain

3 of 15

According to Footy Bunker, Manchester United will bid for Athletic Bilbao's 18-year-old midfielder Iker Muniain.

Having watched Muniain several times, I like what I see. He's a technician, he's determined and he has the ability to become one of the best in the world.

Just a week ago, I watched him run circles around Osasuna's Damiá in a man of the match performance.

For more information read World Football editor Will Tidey's assessment of Munian.

Ross Barkley

4 of 15

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea will buy Ross Barkley for £20 million and then loan him back to Everton.

From what I've seen of Barkley, he's been deployed on the flanks, even though his natural position is more central.

If Chelsea do buy him, would that mean he permanently becomes a wide player?

Considering, he has next to no chance in the middle with the central midfield options Chelsea have right now.

Then again, I said the same thing about Phil Jones not getting a look in at centre-back, and look how wrong I was.

However, it seems premature to buy an unproven talent, especially at £20 million.

Marko Marin

5 of 15

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have their eyes set on mercurial Werder Bremen talent Marko Marin.

Whilst Marin has been overshadowed by Franck Ribéry and Mario Götze, Marin has looked the goods this season.

Has anyone thought about signing Borussia Mönchengladbach's Marco Reus? For me, Reus has been the third-best midfielder in the Bundesliga.

Neven Subotić

6 of 15

According to Caught Offside, Sir Alex Ferguson will sure up Manchester United's defence by signing Neven Subotić for £20 million.

The transfer doesn't make sense because Subotić has been pretty average this season.

If you want to spend £20 million on a centre-back, spend it on Subotić's partner, Mats Hummels.

Carlos Tévez

7 of 15

According to Mirror Football, Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has offered ostracised Manchester City forward Carlos Tévez a life-line:

"

"I would take him if he were available for sure. If Manchester City want to let me have him on loan and subsidise it, I’ll take him tomorrow."

"

Tévez, who will be out in January, has repeatedly voiced his disdain for the English lifestyle and a yearning to be closer to his family.

So why would he then contradict himself and continue to live in London?

Also why should Manchester City help out Spurs?

Fabricio Coloccini

8 of 15

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has prepared a £12 million bid for Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini.

During his time at Deportivo La Coruña, there were rumours surrounding the Argentinian, who had failed to make the grade at A.C. Milan, to call Anfield home.

I don't see the logic in buying a 29-year-old who has becoming an improved centre-back, but I say if Liverpool do want to make long-lasting chances in their centre-back pairing, they don't need to buy.

Just play Sebastián Coates and Daniel Agger together.

Christian Maggio

9 of 15

According to Footie-Online.co.uk, Chelsea are seeking to buy Napoli winger Christian Maggio for £17 million.

I don't understand Chelsea's infatuation with buying wide players for such an inflated price.

Don't get me wrong, Maggio is a good little player, but £17 million? No, thank you.

Eden Hazard

10 of 15

According to talkSPORT, Lille Belgian maestro Eden Hazard is being courted by Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.

With regards to the Premier League sides: Arsenal burnt their bridges when they stole Park Chu-Young from Lille.

Manchester City have enough talents, and Hazard may not get automatic starts.

It's up in the air with Chelsea because Hazard only needs to ask his teammate Romelu Lukaku, and I'm sure Lukaku in private would say he is very unhappy right now.

Miloš Krasić

11 of 15

According to sportsvibe.co.uk, unsettled Serbian winger Miloš Krasić could be on his way to either Chelsea or Manchester United.

Krasić was excellent for Juventus last season but hasn't really found the same kind of form this season.

Not only will the Serbian bring flair and ability, but he'll also bring one his love of diving to England.

Salomon Kalou

12 of 15

According to guardian.co.uk, Salomon Kalou has demanded more playing time or else he'll not sign a new contract.

That means he can leave for free.

Kalou is a perfect example of what can happen to a prodigious talent if he isn't nurtured the right way. Remember, this kid was so good that the Dutch begged him to play for them.

Left on the bench, left out of the squad, a start here and there and six seasons later—just a handy bench player.

This must not happen with Romelu Lukaku.

Oh and about Kalou, let him leave.

Samuel Inkoom

13 of 15

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool will sign Ghanaian right-back Samuel Inkoom from Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

Mixed feelings about this signing.

I believe Martin Kelly should be given a chance at right-back whilst Glen Johnson should be given a chance as a right-winger.

So why sign Inkoom?

He has a good motor in him, but like Johnson, he is prone to lapses in concentration when defending, and he's not a better attacker than Johnson.

Ahmed Musa

14 of 15

According to Daily Mail, Arsenal will again go with the youth route and sign Ahmed Musa from VVV-Venlo.

Here is what I wrote:

"

"China Acheru at Daily Times Nigeria wrote an excellent piece documenting supposedly young Nigerian players excelling in youth tournaments only to fade out in years to come.

They didn't fade out because they lacked talent; they faded out because they probably were on the wrong side of 30 as opposed to being a teenager.

If Ahmed Musa is 18, then what a buy from VVV-Venlo, who also discovered Keisuke Honda.

The name on everyone's lips when previewing the Nigerian team was Sani Emmanuel but he hardly played, whereas Musa looked the goods."

"

Romelu Lukaku

15 of 15

Romelu Lukaku is being treated so unfairly at Chelsea.

My belief is that manager André Villas-Boas wants to loan him out in January after having failed to do so when Premier League technicalities shut down a possible loan move to Stoke City during transfer deadline.

The Belgian was excluded from the UEFA Champions League squad and has hardly featured on the bench let alone in the lineup, even with Fernando Torres serving a suspension.

So that points to Lukaku being loaned out to a Premier League club in January.

My guess is Stoke. If it does happen, trade him into your Fantasy Premier League team.
