Barcelona vs. Real Madrid: Why This Season's Clasicos Could Be Closer Than Ever
Eight games into the 2011-12 La Liga campaign, Barcelona and Real Madrid are neck and neck in the standings.
The Catalans have gathered 18 points from eight games, while their Madrid counterparts have taken 19 points in eight matches. Both teams also have an astounding goal difference of plus-22.
However, all that being said, Madrid are currently second in the table and the Catalan conquerors are third.

The number one team in La Liga is Levante, whose defence has conceded just three goals in 2011-12.
But at the end of the day, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will emerge as the clear-cut top two in Spain. The question remains, who will finish first?
In recent years the Catalans have been in a class of their own, but Madrid is gaining ground on their bitter rivals.
In a bid to close the gap on Barcelona, Real Madrid coughed up a stunning £80 million to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Premier League giants Manchester United in 2009.
Since then, Los Blancos have been spending colossal amounts of capital to reach the level of their Spanish rivals.
This year Madrid have added Fabio Coentrao, who can play as a left-back, midfielder or winger.
Additionally, Jose Mourinho has had ample time to settle in as the Los Blancos boss.
All of these factors plus the uncertainty of Barca's back four could make this season's clasicos closer than ever.
This may be bad news for Barca supporters, but it's great news for football fans across the globe.
