BCS Standings: Michigan State and Teams with Legit Top 10 Arguments
There was chaos in the college football world on Saturday as Wisconsin and Oklahoma stumbled, opening the door for several teams to move up.
None of these teams should be in the top five (yet), but they can all legitimately argue that they deserve Top 10 recognition.
No. 16 Michigan State Spartans
Kirk Cousins, Keith Nichol and the Michigan State Spartans blew the minds of observers everywhere on Saturday.
If you somehow haven't heard about it, here's what happened: Michigan State was dominant for most of the game before blowing a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter. But as time expired, Cousins threw a bomb that was batted around before falling in the hands of Nichol.
Then, chaos ensued. Mark Dantonio looked like he was going into cardiac arrest but didn't really give a damn.
The win gave the Spartans their second consecutive victory over a higher-ranked opponent.
Now sitting at 6-1 with a strong schedule, Michigan State deserves serious Top 10 consideration.
No. 12 Virginia Tech Hokies
Frank Beamer's crew took down Boston College 30-14 on Saturday to improve to 7-1 (3-1 ACC).
Running back David Wilson has been an absolute beast, leading the nation in rushing with 1,037 yards. He also has seven touchdowns on the season.
The Hokies have yet to beat a ranked team, but they've still been playing some pretty solid competition. The ACC certainly isn't the SEC or Big 12, but it's no cakewalk, either.
Their lone loss was to Clemson, who will be ranked in the Top five of this week's BCS poll.
Don't be surprised to see VT in the Top 10 in the very near future.
No. 11 Kansas State Wildcats
Collin Klein and the Wildcats destroyed in-state "rivals" Kansas 59-21 on Saturday.
Klein, a dual-threat quarterback, has been unstoppable this season, racking up 1,604 total yards and 22 touchdowns (14 rushing, eight passing).
The Wildcats will get a chance to prove how good they are when they enter an absolutely brutal stretch next week. K-State takes on four ranked conference opponents (Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Texas) in the next four weeks.
Over the next month, we will find out how legit the 7-0 Wildcats really are.
