BCS Standings Week 9: Oklahoma and Teams Bound to Fall Hard

Ryan RudnanskyOct 23, 2011

One second you're a Top 15 team, the next you're questioning the meaning of life.

And so it went for several ranked teams in Week 8, a week that completely changed college football's landscape and the BCS picture.

No. 3 Oklahoma, who many tabbed as going undefeated this season, got upset by unranked Texas Tech, but the Sooners weren't the only ones.

Here are three teams that will fall hard after their losses in Week 8.

3. Oklahoma (No. 3)

The Texas Tech Red Raiders may have been 4-2 coming into their matchup against No. 3 Oklahoma, but they weren't considered even in the same universe as Oklahoma after losses to Texas A&M and Kansas State.

But that all changed on Saturday when the Sooners were stunned, 41-38, their defense uncharacteristically giving up 572 total yards. The Red Raiders' rushing attack was stopped cold, but their passing game exploded, being led by quarterback Seth Doege, who passed for 441 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Oklahoma was simply surprised by a much better team than we gave Texas Tech credit for.

2. Wisconsin (No. 6)

One moment you're waiting for the teams ahead of you to slip up, the next you realize you just lost to No. 16 Michigan State.

Wisconsin, widely considered one of the powerhouses coming into the matchup with Michigan State, came back from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter on Saturday only to be ultimately defeated by a Hail Mary pass in the final seconds.

You can call it bad luck (which it was), but you can't deny Michigan State still deserved that game.

All of a sudden, Oklahoma State and Boise State may have jumped ahead of Oklahoma and Clemson and Stanford may have jumped ahead of Wisconsin. All in one week.

1. West Virginia (No. 15)

You couldn't blame the West Virginia Mountaineers when they lost to LSU on Sept. 24. You could definitely blame them when they lost to unranked Syracuse on Saturday, 49-23.

The Mountaineers gave up 443 total yards to Syracuse on Saturday, including four touchdown passes to Ryan Nassib and 125 rushing yards and a touchdown to running back Antwon Bailey.

Who would have thought Syracuse would score more points against West Virginia than LSU did?

The Mountaineers don't face a ranked opponent the rest of the way so they better hope they win the Big East.
