Arkansas vs. Ole Miss: Are Razorbacks' BCS Hopes Doomed?
The No. 9 Arkansas Razorbacks are on upset alert against Ole Miss, trailing 17-7 at halftime. A loss would destroy the Razorbacks' BCS hopes because they already have one loss, which came at the hands of Alabama.
Arkansas must find a way to get their offense going, or the second half could be a painful one to watch for Razorbacks fans.
What's gone wrong?
Arkansas has a bit over 100 yards of total offense, and have not been able to get their passing attack going. Quarterback Tyler Wilson has just 72 yards passing, and hasn't been able to create many big plays.
The Razorbacks defense is not doing well against the run, and has allowed Ole Miss to rack up over 100 rushing yards in the first half.
Due to the Ole Miss dominance in the running game, the Rebels have three times the amount of possession Arkansas has.
What's at stake?
Arkansas is 5-1 this season and cannot afford another loss or their dreams of making the BCS title game or a normal BCS bowl game are probably over.
They do have a regular season finale against No. 1 LSU, but with two losses, a win over the top-ranked Tigers wouldn't give them a BCS title shot.
Saturday's game against Ole Miss is a must win for the Razorbacks.
Upset Potential
On a scale of one to 10, I would give Ole Miss' chances of upsetting Arkansas a four.
I doubt the Razorbacks offense will struggle for much longer, and it would surprise me if the Rebels have as much possession of the football in the second half as they enjoyed in the first two quarters.
How will voters react?
If Arkansas loses to Ole Miss it will be devastating to their new ranking in the polls because the Rebels are 2-4 and are one of the worst teams in the SEC.
With a win, it still wouldn't look good for Arkansas to have struggled against an inferior team such as Ole Miss, but a victory probably would not hurt them too much.
Will Arkansas come back?
The Razorbacks should come back in this game, and it's unlikely their offense will be quiet for much longer.
They are a superior team to Ole Miss, and the deficit at half time is only 10 points, which is totally recoverable for Arkansas.
Who benefits most from an Arkansas collapse?
Auburn benefits the most from a potential Arkansas upset because the Tigers would be joined by the Razorbacks with two losses.
Auburn does play No. 1 LSU on Saturday, however, which likely will be a loss.
Auburn needs Arkansas to lose because if LSU beats Auburn and the Razorbacks come back to beat Ole Miss, Auburn would be one and a half games behind Arkansas overall.
